DD is in a difficult position as the lone travel ball player in the varsity program. To make matters worse, her school is classified AA and over 75% of their schedule is against 3A and 4A opponents. Simply put, they are over matched every game. Sometimes by a significant amount.

Earlier this week they were facing a 3A team with district playoff hopes. They finished 9-11 last year while DD's team finished 1-19, with their only win coming in the next to last game of the season. By all rights, this game should have been a mismatch. And when the defense made 3 errors in the first inning alone, it seemed destined for that. But somehow DD's team continued to battle throughout the game. Entering the bottom of the 7th, the game was tied. DD came to bat with runner's on first and second with 2 outs. The dad I was standing with turned to me and said, "What do you think, will they walk her?" I chuckled and replied "I would!". To our surprise, they decided to pitch to her. It looked like the first pitch was a fastball outside. DD drilled a line drive to the right center gap that made it to the fence. Runner on second scored. Game over!! She finished the day 4-5 and continues to surprise me with her resiliency and toughness. Yes, I am a very proud dad!
