DD is primarily a pitcher... Certainly the #1 for her high school team. But we have others so she is pitching about 50% of the innings (all against our real competition).

This year she has also played 1B, 2B, 3B, SS and RF (one game she played 3 of these positions)... and is now the 1st choice 3B if she isn't in the circle. This from someone who has never played 3B until 3 weeks ago. She has always been a SS/2B for travel. She said she is 'just playing 3B as -travel team mate- does'

Proud of her.. not one word of worry or complaint or concern. Every time she is put somewhere, she just says "OK" and goes out and does a hell of a job.

Oh and she is batting 4th as well.

That's great!! I'm impressed with the attitude and softball IQ. I am always amazed at how little some of the players know about other positions. I can't figure out how some players can play SS all the time and not have any idea of what 2B or 3B does on plays.

That's awesome :) I was comparing notes with some of the other parents on DD's team recently, and realized a lot of the kids who can play pretty much anywhere are or have been the coaches' kids. I thought that was interesting, and makes sense.

I am always surprised how many players can not play OF. Not that they will not, just no clue how to.

This is more about my DD playing 3rd then anything else. She has a habit of getting farther and farther off the line as the game goes on, you might want to watch that if she plays 3rd and SS.

IF players who mentally 'get' the game will adjust to other IF positions easily.

OF isn't always the case - I don't understand why - it isn't the throws per se or who the cut off is - as infielders, they know that stuff. I just see many strong IF who can't get in the right spot to catch stuff that makes it to the OF. I see Quincy posted that point about OF already...

I just wish parents understood this...

Last weekend my DD really wanted to play OF for a bit. She pitches and plays SS or 3B mostly but she has started to enjoy the outfield against strong hitting teams. Lots of running and tracking the ball and saving the day. Fun times. We picked up a player this spring who's a beast in CF. BEAST. Only we're using her at SS some where she's never played, and you would never know it. We're only 12U, this is so fun to watch them still picking up new stuff left and right. Anyway...
