Here in utah you can't go higher than a 4.0. I had to clarify that with the daughters.

If AP (Advanced Placement) classes are offered, then kids who take those classes have a weighted GPA. AP classes in TN are weighted as 5=A, 4=B, 3=C and 2=D. These AP classes move at a faster pace to cover more material. DD is required to do a lot of work on her own, similar to a college class.

DD1 took AP classes as is DD2, there wasn't any weighting, just college credit.

29 or above on the ACT score is the number they're looking for at the school where Anna just committed, Jdaddy, your DD's first test score will get her some serious academic money! Tell her congratulations and she can relax a little now, great job!!

From my experience (a 32 on the ACT, but 15 years ago so maybe things are different now), you still have to do a lot of work to get those scholarships. I received very little compared to the overall cost of the school(s) I attended because I didn't go and seek out different scholarship opportunities. I just assumed that good grades + good test scores would be enough to help me out financially. Of course, I also went to a fancypants liberal arts school instead of a state school like a dummy, so that could have been my problem.

As long as she is not going Ivy league type school she should be in great shape CoachJD guess 32 was a popular score that's what I got many moons ago and it was an automatic Presidents scholarship from the state school I went to about (25%) if you could keep your GPA above 3.0 sadly fraternity life caught up to me and it was not renewed after the first year :(

32 is the number to hit for the bigger academic scholarships at the State universities around here. All the honor money just about doubles above 32 with a 3.8 or higher GPA. It might be worth the $65 a time or two if she can make the jump.

Just remember, the only classes that truly count for GPA according to NCAA eligibility are your core classes. They "throw out" the non-core classes to calculate your actual eligibilty GPA, to "level" the GPA playing field. Too many kids taking easy classes to get an A and boost their GPA.
