I'm the guy that never posts on social media about my dd's softball exploits but I like the idea of doing it on here for some reason,so here it goes. I'm an assistant on our 8u travel team that my dd started playing for last year at 7. She has always been ahead of the curve in terms of game smarts I guess you would call it but has struggled with consistantly hitting. Mostly my fault from trying to "fix" everything in her swing at once. She hit great in rec ball this spring but not so much in All Stars. Played 3 tourneys this fall and hit so-so in the first to. Always late. We started going to an indoor batting cage with one other girl 2 weeks before our last tournament and suddenly everything clicked it seemed. Tourney rolls around and game 1 starting temp is 30*. She gets to the plate 3-4 times each game over the course of 5 games and every at bat is either a line drive to center, right center or smoked a grounder over 2nd base. During the last game she starts crying in the dugout saying her throat has been hurting most of the day but didn't want to tell me. Of course I sit her. She goes back in for an inning,her choice, but sits again the next inning. When we get to her in the batting order she starts getting her gear on cause she says she doesn't want us to take an out. She and I talk for a minute and she insists on hitting. I say ok but we're pinch running you if the ump will let us. On the way to the plate I tell her to just make contact and try to get on base. Second pitch is right where she likes it and she drills it to center field, the farthest she's hit a ball all day and gets a triple with 2 rbi"s. I'm not ashamed to admit I had tears in my eyes when she got to 3rd,which I coach by the way. Probably sounds like a made up cornball scenario but I was so proud of her for toughing it out and then performing so well. This girl broke her thumb on her throwing hand during rec ball and finished the game plus played another whole game before we found out it was fractured at the bottom joint, so when she asked to sit out I knew she must be really feeling bad. Brag over and I feel like a dork now, oh well.
