We played in the USSSA fall world series in AL this weekend. Went 0-4, but they handled it pretty well. They had trouble finding their bats, but no team got double digits on us at least. With our team's relative experience level in high level ball compared to the other teams there, that's worth a mention.

DD got to pitch against Fury 2024, finally. She's been wanting to forever. They shut us out, since our girls forgot how to hit. But she got 4 strike outs and gave up just 3 earned runs (we gave up 9 total - it was drop dead and they were still hitting when time ran out but we'll just let that go, mkay?). She said pitching that game was the highlight of the weekend for her.

In one of our bracket games, she had a 3-up 3-down inning, at short stop. lol. It was just one of those lucky things where 3 batters in a row hit it right to her. 2 ground outs and a hard line drive she snagged out of the air. That was fun to watch, even though it was mostly luck (not the clean fielding, that was all her - just the ball getting hit to her 3 batters in a row).

How did everyone do this weekend, if you're still playing? It was actually hot this weekend. Weird for Nov even in the south. Where's fall?

We stopped playing for the winter, so I only have a minor brag, but it impressed me none the less.

DD2, who only started pitching in July, she counted it out, 16 weeks ago Saturday. She had a pitching lesson on Saturday. PC had her working inside/outside. PC told her she needed to throw 5 on one side before she could pitch to the other. DD was getting the inside or outside of the plate usually on 6 pitches, a few times five in a row. I did not think a 13 y/o could be that accurate just four months after starting pitching. Then again I am completely new to TB and especially pitching.

Fall is in Colorado - or maybe it’s winter because it was freezing here yesterday! During DD’s last game yesterday you could see your breath and my toes were frozen! I had my 5 layers (including my down vest and down parka) on plus a blanket and was still a popsicle.

Anyway - DD guested for the older team her coach has. They are legit. These girls can hit the ball, field the ball and are smart and quick baserunners. The coach asked DD (who is new to his younger team) 3 weeks ago if she would be available to sit the bench incase of injury (they were down to 10). She agreed. The weekend was great. She actually caught 2 full games and two innings in other games (he took her as a CF on his other team but she has always been a catcher), she played OF a couple innings and she wound up in the batting line up as well - even with no injuries! She hung right with these girls and had a great weekend. They wound up winning the tourney against a very good team with several of her friends on it. Some of her teammates even came to cheer her on. All in all a fun weekend and she knows now more than ever that she made the right choice leaving her old team! Such a different environment here. Positive, encouraging, and true teamwork! Can’t brag much on DD - but certainly can brag about what a great culture her coach has created on his teams!

So nice to hear of these types of situations.

DD's last regular season game on Saturday - had a good hit and threw out a girl stealing 2nd.
At this past week's game they were finally able to make this play work:
Runners on 3rd and 1st..
Next girl up - throw ball outside - SS is playing in - C throws to SS and waits for girl 3b to take off - she did and SS throws back to C and gets the out.

EOS tournament starts this week where HC has said DD will be pitching most of it - TBH I think she's a lot better at C so we'll see how it goes.

Association started seriously talking about making a TB team for a lot of the girls who were in All-Stars/MS for the spring season. DD has 2 more seasons of 12U she could play but if she does the TB team, she'd be playing 14U.. Really hoping they get it all figured out since a lot of girls are starting the move to TB now.

DD attended a college coached skills clinic on Sunday. It was a good opportunity to work with a couple coaches on her list. She must have done something right because a couple other coaches that weren't on her list personally asked her to come to their camp.

The real kicker was a private boarding school approached her. Since she's only a sophomore, he wanted to see if she would be interested in coming to the school for her last two years because he liked her speed and slapping. I watched to see if he was trolling for recruits, but he didn't seem to be going up to other kids. He also sent DD a personal email that night to talk about the school and the opportunity. It's a very prestigious school in New England with kids from 33 different countries who typically progress on to very high end colleges. It's nothing we've ever considered and financially is most likely out of reach. But it was a nice boost to her self confidence anyway.

My proudest moment of the weekend probably wasn't DD's favorite. On about the 8th pitch of an AB she took a pitch just under the rib cage. It sounded like someone thumped a melon. She started gingerly moving toward first and was bent over in two about half way there. I think it then hit her she could have a runner and go back to the plate since it was a showcase so she waved to the dugout for a runner and started trotting back to the plate. First pitch of the new AB she hit a double into the LC gap.

DD had a great weekend at the plate at our showcase, and she had some really phenomenal plays at SS for outs. Hoping coaches were watching when they happened! We truly showcased the girls this weekend, not playing to win necessarily. Saw some other coaches having their child and AC child hit repeatedly when coaches were watching and not giving everyone the opportunities they deserve. Super proud of our coaching staff for giving everyone opportunities when it mattered most! My DD sat the first game yesterday defensively (HC is DH) even though there was a coach watching. It was her turn to sit for a while, and she was still cheering the loudest in the dugout. Love that kid :)

I've been teasing my DD about her "catcher legs" in an effort to get her to work on her speed. It's paying off. She batted leadoff several games on Saturday and stole bases as well. Of course, she did good catching as well, but that's par for the course.
