Monday brag 11-6-17

I've been teasing my DD about her "catcher legs" in an effort to get her to work on her speed. It's paying off. She batted leadoff several games on Saturday and stole bases as well. Of course, she did good catching as well, but that's par for the course.

She's a natural behind the plate, that's for sure.

DD's team played their first ever exposure tournament over the weekend. They wanted to do an exposure this fall just to get the experience for the girls and the parents. Not enough 14U teams signed up so we ended up playing in the 16U division. I expected to get blown out all weekend long, but we hung in there and ended up with 2 wins. I know in these events the score or who wins doesn't matter, but it's nice to know that we can compete with the older girls. The weather was awful with mist and off and on rain for 2 straight days. 55 minute drop dead time limits, and a couple of games moved to crummy fields with no fences were a bummer. DD played well all things considered. 5 for 10 with a triple and a double, couple RBI's and two stolen bases. She is in 8th grade and hit her double off of a junior, so she feels pretty good about her hitting right now. The conditions made it tough on the defense, but she had some decent plays at short and center.

EOS tournament starts this week where HC has said DD will be pitching most of it - TBH I think she's a lot better at C so we'll see how it goes.

The team we played last night wasn't that great but DD had practiced a little pitching on Sunday afternoon for about 30 min (where she wasn't throwing that well) and then last night, had 10 K's in 5 innings. Also went 2-2 with 2 rbi's..so good night for her. I had hidden her Halloween candy but let her have some after the game

DD's team brought home 1st in their tourney this weekend after dropping 1 in a nail nighter to play back through the L bracket. Had to beat that same team twice in the championship. DD pitched every other game complete all weekend and even came in to close on a close one, striking out 2 of 3 that inning. The house brought home 2 championship trophies in this one!!!!

DD had a less good day and a good day at SC this past weekend. On Saturday she was 1 for 6 with only an infield single. She did steal second and third. On Sunday she hit the first pitch of the the first game over the fence. They went on to win that game 1-0. She finished the day 3 for 7 with her final AB a game tying 2 run HR in the last inning to dead center on a field with a 200' 12' tall fence. Does anyone else's DD judge the success of their weekend by the number of HRs they hit. Unfortunately it seems to have a big impact on DDs happiness factor.

We've been done with tournament play for the last two weekends now. And our play is totally done with until May (excluding high school which starts in April). So brags are pretty much personal with some minor softball brags.

I've been doing some indoor/outdoor work, depending on the weather (it's really cold out right now with temps in the 20's right now...brr...). Right now, I'm working mostly batting and throwing drills along with some conditioning and speed drills. Mainly trying to get faster so I can bust down the first baseline faster. But, I'm also working on positional drills for catcher, third, first, pitcher and a little bit of left field.

But onto personal brags. We had a major test in our AP World History class and ended up getting a 95 on my exam. Plus, got a perfect score on my AP Chemistry project which I put a lot of work into. Currently working on a major book report for my AP English class and doing a bunch of stuff for my Chinese class. But my biggest thing is...I got my junior driver's licence which is huge for me.
