Not really DD but her rec team...
First game of the season back in early Sept we played the second team in our association. They have two really good pitchers (one pitches for a 14U TB team even though the rec teams are 12U) and they have pretty decent fielders/hitters as well. So the first game we lost 3-14 - we have run limits per inning and they got the limit each inning - we never got 3 outs on them. DD and her friend were two of the only hits that game.

Last night we played them again. We still have a lot of girls on this team that struggle with catching the ball or lots of strike outs and if it's hit to the outfield - there's really no one out there that can catch it.
But..finally got our bats going and made some decent outs. Actually were tied at 7-7 going into the 5th. And that's only because one of our best hitters hit a line drive right at 3rd (that would have put us up) - they wanted to walk her since her previous two hits were a triple and in-the-park HR..
The other team was able to get a walk-off to win it but super proud of them for such an improvement. And DD and her friend - both went 0-2 and 0-3...:/

Must be great for the other girls to see the impact they can have on the game, and they do not have to rely on the two players who did well previously.

He also didn't play them in their normal positions. DD is #1 catcher - she played outfield and sat - finally he put her in at catcher towards the end. Coach said he was trying to give the other coach a false sense of security for the EOS tournament coming up ;)
It was a little hard to watch when I knew DD could have made some good plays at catcher but...we'll see how it all goes in a couple of weeks

My theory is they do not get a lot of opportunities during games.

I always wondered if there is some cognitive ability necessary for the outfield that has not developed yet in younger players. Are you familiar with any young players who are regularly get outfield training and are noticeably more competent than others?

I know that feeling. My DD1, who is also a catcher and has gotten many MVP medals during tournament pool play, got little time behind the plate in school ball. Those school ball games would have gone a lot faster if there a skilled catcher back there.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I never measure my weekend in terms of wins and losses. I only care if we play well or not.

DD played in a game last season where they won 7-0 but I was still upset because DD struck out twice and got picked off trying to steal 3rd. I think it was maybe the first time she had struck out all season so it was disappointing because I know she was upset with herself too...
I do try to always think of the positives at least for her. Earlier this season her rec team had a pretty big loss. But DD got two girls stealing home so that was something good :)
