We played in USSSA A State this weekend. It was our first A level tournament as a team, and most of our girls don't have much A ball experience yet. My only real hope was that we wouldn't get blown out by any other 06 teams.

I was really proud of them. They made more errors than our last tournament which was an open with mostly B teams. I think the level of play just made it tougher for some of them in certain plays. But they did really well overall. We played three 06 teams. Two losses, one very close (8 to 7), neither a blow out, and one win. Both 05 teams we played in bracket beat us, but only one was a blow out (12-0, ouch, but the other was just 7-3). We did make it to play on Sunday though we only got one game. I think it was a pretty decent start.

On a personal note DD hit really well, only one strike out all weekend (against the better of the 05 teams we played) and a couple of triples. She started pitching against both 05 teams. She gave up a decent number of runs but she kept her cool. We had inconsistent strike zones all weekend (lots of teams were complaining about this, it seems like a lot of the umpires just couldn't decide where the strikes were) but she handled it well.

You go :)

Rec game this weekend - their coach decided to let all of the girls play different positions. He put everything but pitcher/catcher in a hat and each girl picked something but it had to be a different position than they were used to. So we had girls who had very little experience at 3B and SS. Not great catchers at 1B... Plus two of our better experienced players were out.
DD caught the first inning but then pitched the rest. Luckily she was able to get 8 Ks because there were a lot of missed balls in the field and bad throws to 1B. She helped herself out too with a 2 rbi double :)

Still wish DD would give TB a chance... one of the girls on her team that was out was playing with her TB team and we were able to watch a live stream of them. Watched GC's live stream of some of her other friends who played in the State tournament as well. A girl she played with in 8U and 10U - her team won 12A :)

Impact Gold? I watched them a little bit. They were in our pool but we had an extra team so we didn't play them. The girls saw us in our Atlanta Premier stuff and were all friendly. "Hey! We used to be Atlanta Premier!" It was cute. They seem like a good group of kids.

Yea - they were actually one of the teams that I wanted DD to try out for when they were still Atlanta Premier since they practice right down the road from us. One of their pitchers is one of DD's friends from years back. A lot of the girls on the team played against us in MS ball too.

Daughter probably just played her best all around tournament in her travel ball career (Started in Jan!). She's been the #1 pitcher for her team since she started TB and she's been doing fantastic in the circle. In this tournament she pitched 3 games, (12 innings) Struck out 14, had an era of 1.00, 4 walks, 5 hit batters (which is so not her norm), gave up 8 hits and went 2 and 1. The loss came in the championship 1-0. Game went 6 innings and she pitched lights out! Even took a liner to her right (pitching) forearm in the 2nd inning. Even after taking that shot she had the wherewithal to get the ball and throw out a runner at 3rd who was trying to get from 1st thinking she was hurt. She never went out of the game. Got in a tight jam after a hit and two walks loaded the bases with two outs and the score still 0-0. Threw 4 straight strikes with the last pitch her change up that fooled the batter! Unfortunately, the winning run came in the bottom of the 5th on a play that included a couple of errors.

She's usually clutch on the mound but recently her bat has been coming alive. For this tournament she batted .750 going 6 for 8 with 5 singles and a triple (that went over the left fielder's head). She drove in 3 runs scoring 5 times. She was on base all 11 times she got up although 2 of them were reached on errors so her OBP was .818.

All in all she's having the time of her life - loves her sport, loves her team, loves her coaches. I hope softball (or whatever she does) is always as fun for her as it is right now!!! Looking forward to States in December!

Played in a meaningless round robin. But you wouldn't have known it had you watched our game. Anyway, played against a team that has a serious attitude (coaches and parents) which needed some adjusting. And we gave it to them. Couldn't have been happier.

Another great weekend for dd! Her team scored 31 runs while only had 1 run scored against them all tournament. DD had a big hit in the championship game, got thrown out at 1st but allowed a run to score....end up winning 2-1 against another great team who also dominated all weekend. Afterwards, got to meet the parent and daughter of the other team, who also goes to Rick Pauly for pitching lessons. An amazingly talented pitcher this girl is. Great part of softball is meeting new and wonderful people.

Drove the 17 hours round trip to see my DD on family weekend (first time seeing her since we dropped her off). It was so great to spend the weekend with her - she looks fabulous and is doing really well! I was disappointed that I didn't get to see her play - her games got cancelled because of the inch of rain that fell with the 30 mph winds, but it just meant more time to hang out with her.

Now the brag part. While I was there, the coach named the two team captains and DD was named as one - she is only a freshman!!! So very proud of her - hard work and dedication can be recognized in a short time and rewarded!!!

DD pitched a 7 inning shutout on Saturday - the funny thing is she probably had better stuff the weekend before when she lost 0-1. I guess that is just the way it goes sometimes.

Dang fall ball, no makeup games.

Could not play last 2 weekends, weather was no good, and only 1 game of DH last time.

Coach asked players who wanted to play 1 more weekend and they would try to set something up. Not sure how it is going but like the effort and thought.

Like coach.
