Since my coaching style is "co-parent", I had 13 amazing DDs to be proud of. We played a double header yesterday in 38 degrees with a windchill factor that made it feel like 29. My girls who are fresh out of rec won both games handily and are starting to put it together for a whole game instead of waiting until 1.5 innings to get going. I can't even express how proud I am of how they responded to that bone chilling weather. They're shedding their rec mindset and embracing what it means to be committed to the game no matter the conditions. DD had a couple great games as well. Looked great in the box and behind the dish.

DD1, who got the three MVP medals in the previous tournament, got the MVP medals in the first two games they played on Saturday. At the end of the third game her coach heard the other team talking about giving it to my DD. Her coach walked over to the other coach and told him not to give it to my DD. I am glad my DD coach did that.

After the second game, when she had her second medal of the day she walked up to a few of her teammates, who she thought played better, and offered her medal to them. None of them accepted, but I am glad she thought to offer it.

DD2 was pitching against clearly the strongest team in the tournament. The father of a girl from the other team had started talking with me. We pointed out our respective daughters. He said he was impressed with her pitching. I told him she only started pitching in July. He could not believe it, seriously could not believe it. Another father from my DD's team turned to the doubting father and said yes, she really only started pitching in July. My DD probably had her worst outing, they got plenty of hits off of her, but she kept her control, only walking one batter. I was impressed with her ability to not lose her composure in such a difficult situation.

Not a good Saturday. DD struck out 4 times which I don't ever remember seeing her do before. All on 3-2 pitches. She just didn't seem to see the ball in the night games. Went 1-2 but were in a pool with all really good team. Sunday we played the 2 seed from another pool and batted 13 players, pitched our 4th pitcher and move our D around and still beat them (not a great team). This gave us the honor of playing the top team who has beaten us 11-0,10-0 and 6-0 in pool. We generally don't do it, but we went out with our top 9 and after they got up 3-0 we were able to tie them up. All the teams still there were rooting for us. They made a couple of plays and we didn't and they won 7-3, but it was a great game for us. Coaches from the next team which was a national organization came up to our kids and told them how amazing they played. DD had some hits and battles some good pitchers for a couple of walks and looked like herself.

DD is finally back in her hitting groove. The last couple of games she hasn't been looking so great. Her hitting coach had worked on changing her stance ever-so-slightly (moving her front foot maybe an inch or two further from the plate) and it was like she was a new hitter. My favorite at bat was when the opposing coach brought in his #1 pitcher specifically to face DD, and DD responded by crushing the ball to center.
