As a dad of another fully ACL replacement recovered DD (3.2 before, 3.2 after LOL) I think we often take for granted the miracles of modern medicine - not just the surgeries , but also the rehab and PT.

Question - DD is two months post ACL reconstruction. How long did it really take for her to be back to her original self? A full year? Do you have any advice for the rehab months - and the months after?
Thanks

6 months exactly post-surgery she was ok’d for unrestricted play, including catching. About 3 months of play later, she was back to where she had been pre-injury. A good PT program right from the start I s crucial to recovery, but resist the temptation to exceed what they recommend.

FWIW - some orthos recommend braces, some, like DD’s, don’t. The statistics 6 yrs ago didn’t indicate a difference in outcomes. DD’s teammate who had the ACL at the same time used a brace afterwards and took longer to get back to prime form, IMO in part because the brace was a constant reminder. Honestly, it wasn’t til about a year later that DW and I stopped holding our breaths and worrying about it.

Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery
