DD had been with the same core group for 5 years but made up her mind to seek another team this year. She worked hard over the summer practicing to get a middle infield position with a new team. She is also a pitcher so she had to take that into consideration.

Didn't make it on to what she thought was her first choice and then tried out for a team she was considering last year. Ended up being a perfect fit for her. They won their first tournament and looked really sharp doing it. She won a couple games giving up only 1 run and did great at SS/2nd along with her hitting. She couldn't be happier and mentioned she is better friends with these girls already then she was the whole time with the other team. All with a sore, slightly black and blue ankle from rolling it in BB. The kicker is she shut out a team that scored 11 runs on the team she didn't make. Looking back she and I are glad she didn't make that team.

DD was facing live hitting against one of her new team mates at practice this weekend. 3rd pitch was up and in hit a shot over the fence. Welcome to the team kiddo. She didn't give her anything to hit the next 2 AB's. It's been a while since I've seen her hit one over the fence instead of cage bombs!

I've got one after all. It's a Bushnell and this is running in. She hit 48 mph on the same gun running in almost exactly a year ago. Pretty darn proud of her. She just turned 11 last week. This is also with the 12" ball, which we just started up with last month.

Today was the second time my DD pitched in a TB game, granted it was only a scrimmage, but she only started pitching in mid-July. After the game she told me she realized some of the batters were swinging at outside pitches. She said after that her body was mixing in outside pitches with her strikes when she wasn't even planning on it. Sounds like she really learned not every pitch has be a strike.

At certain facilities, I've watched in envy from the dugout as parents enjoy ice cold beers while watching their DDs do awesome stuff. It may just be time for me to flip that script. That said, if the new team opens the door for me to get involved on the team side of things, I will probably jump at it.

As long as you know your limit...have seen parents go overboard with the drinking. Entertaining but not pretty to watch.

She starts a few steps back from where she's going to pitch the ball and takes those steps sort of speed walking (not really running) into the pitch. Does that make sense? It's meaningless for speed, because you can't pitch like that in a game, of course, but the 8mph increase from last year was pretty cool to see. I had been feeling like she'd plateaued a bit so it's nice to see I'm probably wrong about that.
