Random question, but what substance in that charcoal-colored field? It doesn't look like turf.

I'm not sure. It is a type of dirt (I don't think is synthetic, but don't quote me on that). What I do know is that it makes the field drain incredibly fast.

My DD played in a different field in an out of state tournament in PA with the same type of dirt. After a huge storm, and I mean, huge (we were literally packing everything up to go to the hotel) the ump came back after like 20 minutes and said "OK we are playing".

Take the mask off for pop ups etc.

Well said. The first thing they learn at The Catching Camp is not to take the mask off for pop ups (or for anything else for that matter), and it makes a lot of sense. It is a trip hazard.

He says, "You are looking up and there you are dropping something big to the ground that you are not seeing... you can trip on your own helmet and then hit your head or break a leg or something".
