Nothing wrong with venting on the car ride home. Lots of players do that. When a pitcher needs 5 outs in an inning, she isn't happy.

But, you are right. The coaches, rather than the pitcher, should be the ones to correct the fielders.

"I’m the king of positivity, but at some point, players need to get mad, point fingers, yell at each other, figure out how to work through it, and then go create the happy ending they want."

This was what I responding to...

This weekend was an adventure for DD's team. In pool play we went 3 and 0, with 2 come from behind wins. In bracket play we were top seed, and lost against the bottom seed team from the other pool by 3. In first pool play game we lost our third baseman after she got cleated on a steal. To the hospital she went for 19 stitches in her calf, and she's done for a few weeks. Talk about a nasty cut....she is one tough kid. Third pool play game we lost our number 1 pitcher after an inning due to a hip problem she's been dealing with. Hopefully it's nothing major, but they think it could be a growth plate problem so she might be done for the year. DD had a rough weekend batting. She hit a few hard balls, but they were right at a fielder. A couple of QAB's and walks, a bloop single, and drag bunt for a hit. Finally in her last at bat of our eventual bracket loss she came with with 2 on and 2 out and smoked a triple into LC. It may have been a homer if the field would have had a fence. I think she still could've made it home but coach held her up. She was not happy yesterday, but ended on a positive note with a big hit and couple of RBI's.

DD has been dealing with a hip issue related to growth/growth plate all spring off and on. We finally got in to PT and wow. I really wish we'd have pushed for it sooner. She only had 2 visits and she has had zero pain since her first visit. It's like a miracle. They said just keep doing her exercises and she only needs to come back if the pain comes back. Might be worth looking into PT for your pitcher if she hasn't already.

I 100% agree. However, it's been a Fall season, Spring season, and now we're in Summer with only one month left and the Coaches aren't lighting that fire under anyone. And DD is mentally checking out... When we got home yesterday, Mom asked how the weekend went. Answer was "We did what we always do. Lost every game to a bunch of crappy teams." It's hard to motivate her to put in the extra 3-4 hours of weekly practice over and above team practice when that's the result.

As I said, it's a crappy Monday for me because I know it's the Coach's job to yell at the infielders. However, it's also not healthy for DD to carry all that anger inside either.

Thanks for letting me vent. It's been 24 hours and I'm still hot on her behalf. Need another 24 hours to go by and some input from the cool head in the house (Mom) before we burn this mother down. /sort of kidding

One month left. She'll suck it up for another month. And then I'll help her join a team with better defense that will let her enjoy softball. It's much easier to bust your tail working hard when you don't want to let your teammates down...

That is what Dads/Moms are for...human punching bags ;) I realize you were just venting and would probably
not advise your daughter to go off on the infielders but just imagine if she did that with college scouts there....
I speak from experience unfortunately, I had a college recruiter walk out of the ballpark on me when I was in HS
after I flipped out after a K....:(

DD has been putting together a solid season. Many hard hit balls over the weekend. One at bat was particularly good. She took two strikes looking then started fouling them off, one after another, all to the 3b side (she hits LH) with a couple of balls mixed in. She ended the nine or ten pitch at bat with a line drive up the middle. On the drive home I asked her why it took her so long to adjust to the pitcher's speed. She said "I was trying to foul those off, I was waiting for a pitch I could drive". :)

Unfortunately, late in the final game of the weekend, she hit a slow roller to short and busted down the line to beat the throw. Just after she crossed the bag she somehow hyperextended her knee and piled up in a heap. Waiting now to hear when the MRI will be scheduled. The rest of her season is in jeopardy. :(

Last year DD had a mess of a defense behind her. She often had to get 5-6 outs per inning. She never complained TO her team mates but she'd sometimes vent to us about how frustrating it was. We told her hey, more reps in the circle, right? More chances for strike outs, which she loves. Trying to find a silver lining, haha. This year we're on a team that's really got her back though, and it is definitely a big improvement. Not that they never make errors, and we have some really awful games. But on avg it's a lot better now.

2 for 10 on Friday and Saturday with 2 K's in 1 hour rain shortened pool games. 6 for 11, with a double, triple and HR with 6 RBI in 4 bracket play games on Sunday. Go figure!

However, the opposite is definitely allowed and strongly encouraged.

DD's team finally put together a couple of encouraging (watchable) games yesterday... Car ride this morning will be the "treat others as you would like to be treated" talk which hopefully leads to some positive dugout comments and encouragement.

Thanks for letting me vent a couple of weeks ago and talking me down from the ledge.

Tryouts start in late July/early August!
