Nothing to brag about…

DD’s team pooped the bed for the third weekend in a row. Sunday morning bracket play: 6 errors and another 8 plays that girls with hustle should make.

Honestly, I don’t mind the errors as much as the other plays. Grounders to infielders that never generate outs. Fielders choice plays the play AFTER you were supposed to make that choice. Where is the fire, where is intensity, why are we getting up at 6 AM to treat Sunday like a rec league scrimmage?

DD pitches and she fumes in the car ride home. Innings that should end in 8 pitches take 25. I tell her that she needs to do more than fume. Vent that anger. I’m the king of positivity, but at some point, players need to get mad, point fingers, yell at each other, figure out how to work through it, and then go create the happy ending they want.

Bad Monday morning for me. What is the point of all this? Please DD, please find the next gear, and start turning into the future woman I want you to be.

Speaking as a pitcher's dad --

A good catcher is worth her weight in gold.

Two of my DD's pitchers got MVP medals on Saturday - got pictures of them both with my DD. It's her job to make them look good!

DD started out great this weekend guest playing. She won a gift card in a little hitting competition with the farthest hit ball I've ever seen her hit. She followed that up with a dinger her first up at bat and was doing well until she pulled her hamstring in the 3rd game. Physical therapy starts in one hour😔

I used to hate when DD played catcher but since she's gotten better (and the fielders more reliable for her to throw to), she's gotten to where she makes a ton of really awesome plays. She's caught for this one pitcher for the last few seasons so it's gotten to be that she has a really low SB% and very few passed balls. The coach (the pitcher's dad) is always pushing to have DD on his team to catch for his daughter (even though DD pitches too).

Congrats, but i have to ask. Are the coaches short or is your 12u team really that big? HA! Looks nothing like our 12u, but most of ours were 11 years old.

I'm so nervous about next year! We're a young 06 team. Our oldest turned 11 in April. My DD is the youngest and won't be 11 until mid-Sep. Our team is also pretty small for their ages. We have several who are really tiny. DD's not tiny at 5'2" but she's only 100 pounds or so. Tall and thin. And a pitcher, who will be in the circle facing girls who are so much bigger and more experienced. Sometimes that face mask doesn't seem like very adequate protection to me.

We played in our first showcase of the season. We had a tournament last weekend and DD got drilled in the wrist with the 2nd pitch of the game so we spent half the day getting xrays and she courtesy ran the rest of the tournament.
She emailed a few coaches at schools she's interested in who had seen her last year, all while being unsure if she'd even be able to play. She did play, all but one inning of the 6 games, and while her hitting was a bit off she had a pretty good weekend and the feedback from the coaches has been great so far. Team went 6-0 for the weekend so that was fantastic also.

#7sDad and his DD stopped by for part of a game since she was guest playing down the street.

My daughter is mid september birthday as well. We played a couple of tournaments in december and when facing the girls that were aging up to 14u in january, it was very scary for the girls at time. Be careful with the Fall tournaments if you are playing up. There will be some very big girls playing. My daughter is about 5'2" now and 90 lbs. Pitched a pretty good bit and it wasn't too scary. Every so often you have to make sure she is smart enough to keep the ball inside just so it isn't back up the middle. After getting hit in the stomach and wrist on a come backer at practice, we bought the evo shield chest protector just in case.

IMO it is a bad look for the pitcher to vent at the fielders. That is the coaches job...they aren't hustling then the coaches should say they will find players that want to play...

Nothing wrong with venting on the car ride home. Lots of players do that. When a pitcher needs 5 outs in an inning, she isn't happy.

But, you are right. The coaches, rather than the pitcher, should be the ones to correct the fielders.

It was great to see you. Good luck to CM this summer and we'll see you in a few weeks at NE Finest.
