We played in A state this weekend. Only won one game, but we didn't get blown out at all. Lost to 2 B level teams we usually beat, which was a bummer. Both of those were lost out of time in the final inning by one run, both really good games. One of the As we lost to, final score was 6 to 3. We did make them put in their #1 pitcher.

We also played one of the highest ranked teams in GA. DD pitched the whole game, and the score was 0-0 until the 5th inning and we were out of time. Girl hits a grounder right by 1B but she wasn't paying attention. Got by her and runner on 2 made it home, we lose. Almost a tie (pool game) and they too put in their #1 after awhile.

It felt good as a no-name B team with several girls who are first year travel (plus 3 pick ups this weekend) to go in there and compete even if we didn't have a lot of wins.

DD continued her bat of fire streak. Another tournament with zero strike outs (I think that's 4 in a row now). I know Saturday her batting average was 667, I don't have the full weekend #s yet. She also started PT last week, pitched 2.5 games this weekend, and didn't have any pain. Such a relief. It was awesome to get to really watch her pitch again, not just the inning here and there we were allowing before.

DD's TB team played in a college showcase tourney in a neighboring state. Her team did well - ended up taking 4th place against very competitive teams. It was nice to be able to relax since she is signed and not constantly be checking the stands for college coaches, furiously scribbling down names/schools and sending her over with profile pages to talk to them (although I did do some scouting for her coach so that he could help the unsigned girls and parents). It was kind of amazing to me how unprepared her teammates and their parents were though - there were at least 12 coaches watching our game yesterday morning and none of the girls (that were of age to) talked to any of the coaches after their game. DD even took one or two players up to talk to a coach that she knew because the girls wouldn't go on their own.

DD did great in the field and hit so-so, with the exception of one that she really got a hold of for a 2 run dinger over a marked 223' fence that went another 25' up the hill.

Sunday's umpire in 14U USSSA state tourney presented DD with a game ball for being the best catcher he'd seen all tournament. Is this a thing? Last tourney Sunday umpire gave big shout out to her by name. Hit .625 for the weekend too. Team placed 5th of 15. Had good matchup in last game but unfortunately came out on the losing side of that one.

DD's team played in a college showcase this weekend. Since DD is one of a couple commits on her team so she didn't catch much. Coach wanted her bat in the line up though. She got to play LF one game and made a few good catches ( 1 running into the LF foul area). She also got to hit in a bunch of different spots. Nothing funnier than a #4 power hitter in the #1 spot. She laid a pretty bunt down the other team wasn't ready for. Next at bat she faked bunt action, then powered it to the center field fence. DD's enjoying her summer free from the "college hunt" stress. By the way, Mom is too.

DD's All-Star team won their second tournament over the weekend (going undefeated).
She had 3 triples over the week and was 2-3 in the championship game. (Always nice to be able to hit well when your hitting coach comes to the game too)
They've played 9 games over 2 tournaments and she's only allowed 3/5 SBs (she alternates SS and C - though she was 3B for at least one game and had two pick-offs there)

TCS Zoom Into June 12U tournament in San Diego - 60 teams, including all of the top teams in So Cal. Maddie's team played well in pool play with the exception of 1 really bad inning, and finished 2-1. The second place pool finish was enough to qualify the team for the gold bracket.

First bracket game was against a powerful Batbusters team that easily dominated their pool games. Pretty much everyone was expecting another easy blow-out victory for BB, especially with our #1 P too sick to start, or CF not feeling so good either, and Maddie (#1 C and biggest bat) sitting due to concussion concerns after taking a hard foul tip to the face mask in pool play. Our #2 P isn't especially fast, but has very good control. The BB team struggled to make decent contact, and most of the hard hit balls they had were caught by a very determined OF crew. We drew first blood by manufacturing a run in the top of the first inning. At the end of regulation time, the game was tied 2-2. We scored in the top half of the first tie-breaker inning, but gave up a 2-run double over the head of a pulled-in OF, and lost 4-3. It was a hell of a game for our scrappy team. I'm very proud of how they played.

Our first pool game ended with Maddie throwing out a runner on an attempted delayed steal. Maddie did an excellent job of reading the play, and getting the runner to commit to 2B with a pump fake. Her throw to 2B was spot-on for the out. I love watching my catcher-beast in action...

Maddie's head got checked by a Dr. yesterday afternoon. No concussion.

Glad she is ok...saying she got her head checked out by a Dr. reminded me of what my old man used to always say to me (kiddingly I think..) when I was a kid..

She makes that throw to 2B look like nothing. Easy peasy.

She definitely nailed the throw. I'm more impressed by how well she read the situation, and out-played the delayed steal attempt. It earned her a "thou shall not steal" sticker for her new catcher's helmet. :)
