I don't normally post brags, but I'm going to anyway. Our little "small name/no name" 16U org is playing toe-to-toe with some of the biggest names in the southeast and the country (based on last year's National results). Over the past 3 weeks we have beaten TN Fury Platinum 16U, Bolts 01, Tampa Mustangs TJ and lost to Atlanta Vipers Moore in ITB on a game we lead the entire time until the last inning. Lost another one to Bolts 01 and Frost Falcons 00. We came in 3rd place in a loaded Scenic City super bracket games. All of these wins are in bracket play. We also won a ASA/USA National qualifier last weekend, even though we already had our birth from last year coming in 2nd at Southern Nationals.

I had a Bolts 18U mom, who was waiting to play the next game yesterday, ask how many commits we had, and she said she was surprised we handled Tampa Mustangs so easily. :) It's fun to be a little known TN Crusader right now - Tennessee Crusaders - Home

DD hit 667 this weekend (same for the weekend as she had on Saturday) and this was her 4th tournament in a row with no strikeouts. Over 20 games, she's had 34 hits including 6 triples and 5 homeruns, 30 RBIs, and zero walks. Her batting average over those 4 tournaments is 723. I had to brag on that because it's kind of amazing.

1st tournament our team was the Good, the Bad and the Ugly all rolled into one.

Saturday we went 3-0 (the Good) played great defense, timely hitting, solid pitching. Sunday team didn't show up, think they had big head from Saturday thought Sunday would be a cake walk, fell behind early (the bad) came back to make it 5-4 and thought we really turned the corner, fell apart defensively 4 errors, a misjudged fly ball and botched run down later the game was over 11-4 loss and heading home (the ugly).

DD may have had one of the weakest 4-9 performances at the plate with 3 really well placed infield hits, unintentionally. But I suppose that's better than a weak 1-9 performance had those balls not been hit so "artfully", did miss a triple down the line by a few inches as it was just foul so something to build on for next week.

We got 6 games in this weekend. 1 tie, 3 wins, and 2 losses against some stout competition. I'm happy to say these girls are finally starting to come together & look like a solid team. Our 2 losses cam against '02 teams (ours is all '03's), and lost each by 1 run. DD had a pretty decent weekend. No strike outs, probably hit around .500, picked up a handful or more RBI's, and had a nice weekend defensively at short & second. In one inning she played left field, second base, center field, and back to second lol. Still don't know what in the world was going on, but she recorded all three outs in that inning.

Saturday was a great day for DD's team - played 4 games starting at 8 a.m. and finishing up close to 8 p.m. - they scored 51 runs and allowed 7. One player who is a 2018 catcher/1b/ss - she hit FOUR homeruns! She was a major beast!! She normally hits well but dang - it was fun to watch her hit Saturday. DD was so-so in hitting but she did get some solid hits. She pitched the 2nd game and allowed only 1 run. I was worried about how she would do after being off the mound for a while, but she did fine. Sunday, however, the wheels flew off the bus. They mustered only 1 win between 2 losses (and they were not close marginal losses either). They just petered out. This was first tournament together since last November, so not too shabby - and the team has not been able to practice together completely with some players not able to make practices for whatever reason (my DD included). Hoping Saturday sets the tone for the rest of the summer!!

DD#3 played in her first 10U A state championship tournament, I'm the head coach. They went 4-2 against some very good teams, and took home a 2nd place trophy at the end of a 12 hour day which started @ 5:45AM. I think I was more tired than she was at the end of the tournament. Very proud of them.

DD had a pretty nasty ankle sprain about 3-1/2 weeks ago... spent two weeks on crutches and in a solid splint, and is now in an athletic brace. First game back in the line up she was rusty, timid, and afraid to really run. During a double header last night, she went 6/7 at the plate with 9 rbi's.... her only out was a bomb caught at the CF fence.... so much for being rusty. LOL
