We got 2 games in before the rain hit. Our first game (usually our worst of the day) was against the strongest team in our pool. They beat us last time we played them. Second to last inning and we were down 4-0. They let us load the bases - a walk, a HBP, a single. DD came up and hit a grand slam, tie ball game. The next batter grounded out for the last out. There was time left so we got another another inning. Our girls allowed no runs, then our clean up was our first batter. She came up and hit an in the park homerun for a walk-off.

Second game we were down 5-3 against a weaker team. The first team had a fast, accurate pitcher. The second team had a very slow pitcher. The games were back to back, and they kept popping up, hitting easy grounders to the pitcher etc. Finally figured out how to wait on it, got a couple of runners on, and the next batter hit a walk-off triple for the win.

It's one of the coolest things about our team. They've had a lot of 2-out, no time left, come-back wins. And they're so fun to watch! So when the rain came in we were the #1 seed in our pool.

How did everyone else do this weekend?

DD finished her HS career with her team at the 5A state tournament - the softball team's first appearance in school history. As predicted, our Cinderella team got crushed but just going was a great experience. A lot of DD's travel ball teammates were there with their HS teams from the west side of the state (she plays with a team based out of a city 4 hours away) so it was nice to reconnect with them.

DD finished her HS season with a .419 BA, 1.257 SLG and a .477 OBP with 37 RBIs and 6 HRs.

One of the HS parents said to me this weekend "So are you ready for a break from softball?" I just laughed and said "She starts travel ball next weekend". They don't get it...

DD 3 played her last HS JV game of the season this past Thursday.

She got off to a bit of a slow start pitching, allowing a run in the first inning, and I think she even walked a batter or two. Then, at some point it was like turning a switch. With no outs and a runner at first, she went into killer mode. Struck out the next 3 batters. Next inning struck out two more to extend her streak to 5. The next batter hit a dinky pop-up back to the pitcher for the 3rd out.

Final score 11-1. DD 3 also scored 3 runs to help her cause. That game put DD 3 and the JV team slightly above .500

That was the good news.

The bad news: Varsity had a truly horrible season this year, and the Varsity girls tended to take out their frustrations on the JV girls. DD 3 and the best JV players are setting up a meeting with the Varsity HC soon to discuss what the JV girls consider bullying.

DD has had a rough year in high school ball. As one of only 2 travel ball players on the roster, not much was expected out of this group. And after having over 30 errors combined in the first 3 games, it was easy to see how the season was going. Then DD became injured and missed 8 games making an already tough season almost un-watchable. She finally received clearance to play for the final week of the season. She had hoped to pitch on Thursday and was disappointed when she found out she would be at first base. In the top of the second, the team was faced with a based loaded situation with 2 outs. Coach made the switch and gave DD her chance. One pitch, ground ball back to her, inning over. She went on to pitch the rest of the game accumulating 5 1/3 innings pitched with 8 strike outs. The result was the team's one and only win on the season. To add to her day, she went 3-3 from the plate with a double and 2 rbi, including the game winner. At least she has one positive memory from this season. Now looking forward to travel ball!!
