Dd guest-played for another 14U team this weekend and pitched against a decent 16U team. She had 14Ks in 7 innings. Very proud bucket mom here. :)

Daughters team had six games on Saturday and that last game was the best game the girls played all weekend. Took second place on Sunday not to shabby.
For the second tournament this year my daughter threw a missile and beat a kid running to first from centerfield to record an out. Umpires were just shaking heads in disbelief.
Had another random out of state coach give unsolicited feedback on the kiddos play. Said he would take her anytime. Another said they could watch her play all day every day.

DD received her first scholarship offer. She also had a very nice phone conversation with a coach from one of her other possible choices.

DD's HS team broke into the Top 20 ranked teams in her state. We're not a perennial power house so we don't typically get noticed. We still have a ways to go to catch some of the other DFP'rs DD's schools, but this nice recognition for our program.

For DD's part, she'd played every inning at SS and is hitting in either the 1 or 2 spot. So all together, she's having a great experience with HS ball as a freshman. The bat needs to get cranking a bit more, but she's having good at bats and the results should come.

DD's team has been struggling this season. But Saturday night they all decided to show up and play. They were down 12-4 in the bottom of the 7th inning and came back and won! It was unbelieveable! They batted all the way thru the batting order plus some and scored 9 runs (6 of which were with 2 outs). Last year DD's team was known as the comeback team but we haven't seen that at all this year. It was so exciting. The tourney wound up getting rained out on Sunday but to see glimpses of the old team was great!

DD1's team won their regular season conference the week before and then won the conference Championship this past weekend. They are hosting regionals and hopefully super regionals.

DD's rec team played in their EOS over the past week. They had won their first game (against a really tough team) and were set to play Thursday against the only team they lost to all season. Thurs got rained out, Friday got rained out. Played early Saturday and lost after going to ITB. Had to wait and play later that evening in the loser's bracket. Won after a really long game.

Came back on Sunday and had to beat the first team they played but this one took forever. They had to shorten all the games to 1:15 due to missing two days. Game was scheduled for 6pm with another game at 7:15 and championship game at 8:30.
Game went to ITB and finally in the 7th, they were able to win. I was told that DD had some amazing hits and catches (I was with DD#2 at a cheer comp so I missed the weekend). DD played catcher and SS and caught a line drive to get a third out. Also got a few girls stealing and made a tag at home to prevent a run. Also had a hit with bases loaded to drive in two runs to tie up the game.
Played again around 8:30 (the game that should have been the 7:15 game). Won that one pretty easily and it was way after 9:30 when they actually started the championship game! They had to stop the game at the top of the 5th (with us winning 4-1)
Came back on Monday with 15 min left and were able to win 5-1.
IF game - we just couldn't find any holes and their team found them. Ended up losing 4-1 but they did awesome after being so tired. DH couldn't believe they were able to continue to play so well on Sunday when they were in their 3rd game. (This is rec so most of these girls aren't used to back to back games)

DD's team ended the season 16-3 :)

Had a very interesting weekend! Our 10U team played in their first true travel tournament (hotel stay) and came in 2nd out of 8. Saturday the girls played hard the first game and lost 4 - 0 to the eventual champion. My daughter pitched well as that team scored over 10 runs against all the other teams they played. Struck out 7 with 3 walks in 4 innings. Next two games girls were deflated. Lost badly in both. Sadly had some team drama. It looked like the wheels were coming off completely. We looked like the cupcake team of the tournament.

The girls decided to have a team meeting - no coaches or parents. No idea what was said but Sunday was a different story. We ended up being seeded 7th. First game was against #3 seed, team that beat us 10 - 0 day before. Daughter pitched the Sunday game and we won 5 - 1. She struck out 10 in 4 innings with 1 walk. This team had a pitcher who was seriously 5-7 or 5-8 in 10U who we couldn't hit at all the day before. Next up #2 seed team who had two girls who were also that tall - sisters. Went out and took the lead but the came back to tie then we got a 2 run lead in the 4th. Daughter brought in to close it out and struck out two including a K looking to end the game. It was so exciting. Nobody expected this. That team hadn't lost in like 20 games! Next game #1 seed beat us. Daughter pitched well but they are a great hitting team. Struck out 6 with 1 walk but they found gaps and we had a few errors that gave up runs. Next was that #2 seed again. They were chomping at the bit for us. If we win we are in the championship. Another back and forth game. Girls super tired. Tied up in the top of the 4th. We have two girls on - 2nd and 3rd. Coaches daughter coming up to bat. She throws up in the dugout. Coaches not sure what she's able to do if anything. Coaches ask her if she can just try to bunt. She says she doesn't want to bunt. Gets up and ropes a liner in to right for a 2 run double to take the lead! Bottom of 4th inning still up by 1, 2 outs runner on 1st. Girl rips a line drive to center my daughter lays out to catch it in the air with her feet off the ground! Game over we win! Place went crazy!! (Especially her parents, sisters and aunt!)

Ended up losing to that same team again in the championship (would have had to beat them twice) as the girls were so tired and worn out. Daughter pitched well but again they just found holes when they hit. I was surprised to she was still throwing at 45 and 46 mph that late in the day but the other team was on and we lost 7 - 3. Sunday was a great comeback for this team that looked like it had given up the day before. The night before my wife and I were thinking it would be play 2 and we'd go to the beach and we ended up watching 10 hours of great softball!

This is our first year in TB and we are addicted! Even my younger daughter wants to play softball now (she's been playing soccer)! Looking forward to more of this in the future!

We left a very strong team with a win-at-all-costs Coach and joined a “work in progress” squad with a fundamentals oriented Coach for this season. DD is a first year 12U pitcher and we figured this was good for the long term even though the short term might be a bit painful. (Winning is definitely more fun than losing!)

The trophy hunting Coach has kept his strong team playing C level to accumulate plastic. This weekend, after pool play, they were the #1 seed yet again. We were the bottom seed that had to do the “play-in” game at 8 AM to then have the honor of losing to them at 11 AM in their first game. Gotta love those 5 AM alarms on the weekend.

Eight innings later, 103 pitches by DD against her old team, virtually error free defense by our group of “work in progress” girls, timely hitting, and BOOM. The girls were running around like they’d just won a National Championship.

Best moment was when they tried to walk our strongest hitter. She wouldn’t let them. Two girls on base and we needed runs. By the end, she was physically stepping over the plate to keep fouling ball after ball after ball, before she finally poked in a 2 RBI blooper to RF.

This was our old teams last tourney at C level. USSSA is finally forcing them to move up. We’re happy for our old teammates who will finally get to play better competition on a regular basis. However, we’re not sad to make their last memory of trophy hunting at C level a first game loss on Sunday to a bottom seeded team with a Coach working on fundamentals.
