We got 2nd place this weekend. The whole first half of the day it was like they didn't want to be there and forgot how to play softball. They were handing out ASA rule books (score, I don't have to ask here anymore) and the coach gave the kids one after a game and told them to go read it learn how to play softball. lol Our biggest strength is our defense, which I'd usually put up against any team around. This weekend they made 21 errors! It was so ridiculous it was almost funny. They woke up eventually though.

Second place was a bit painful because the team we played had the worst sportsmanship we've ever seen. The first base coach would yell BOO loudly at our 1B if there was a play to try to startle her into dropping the ball. The parents and coaches were heckling our pitcher. My DD wasn't pitching due to how the bracket lined up, and the girl who was is pretty new. I'm almost positive it was her first time pitching in a championship so I'm sure it didn't help her stay calm to be heckled by adults. The kids were literally screaming and banging on the dugout chain link every pitch. DD said the third base coach spit on her; I'm hoping he didn't realize she was there but I have my doubts. DH said the first base coach smelled strongly of liquor. It was really not a feel good tournament at all.

DD had a good weekend though. She hit .667 off some really solid pitching. 7 singles, a double, triple, and a homerun (in the park again. Her triple was SO close to going over; one of these days). She pitched 20 strike outs and only 3 walks, not too shabby :)

Jake came in for relief and closed all 3 games this weekend vs Georgia. Ended up with 3 decisions, 2 wins and 1 loss as the Gamecocks clinched a berth in the SEC Tournament. Threw a total of 9 innings with only 1 earned run against one of the best hitting teams in the country. The CU was as good as ever and she tied a personal best of 71mph. She is going out on top of her game!

We were 7 hours away watching DS graduate from college (an absolutely amazing experience) so we missed DD's HS game. The HS of the team they were playing had two suicides last week (1 attempt and one completion) so DD wanted to do something to show support of the team. She and another player spent 3.5 hours making bows in the other teams colors for their team to wear at the game and DD bought roses to hand to each player before the game. The other team was touched by their support. We got run ruled but proud of the team - classy group of girls that DD plays with.

That is great that they showed support like that.

My DD2 pitched her first no-hitter this past weekend against our local rival in bracket play. We went on to win the tournament. It was a great weekend.

Dd10 is a first year catcher (LL). In Saturday's game, she threw one out at 2B on a steal attempt and then another at 3B. She's made attempts before, and her throws are usually where they should be. This was the first time the fielders caught the ball and completed the tags. I ordered the "Thou shall not steal" stickers from the Catching Camp, lol.

This week, she also managed two successful delayed steals from 2B to 3B. She was almost out on the second time she tried, but she managed to slide around the tag and hit the back of the bag.

DD's in her rec league playoffs (it's a double elimination tournament spread out over two weeks). She was in her first elimination game against a team that's pretty evenly matched.

When time expired, it was a tie game, so it went to a tiebreaker. The tiebreaker went back and forth for two innings (DD's team was ahead after their half of the first inning but gave up the lead on a bad throw by SS), but when DD got the lead a second time, you could just tell she was not going to let it go. She got multiple compliments from parents and coaches for her composure under pressure and her confidence in the circle.

DD made a beautiful diving catch in CF on a ball that looked like it was going to drop in front of her.

Well, DD pitched like dog squeeze this weekend, but she did hit a HR off a pitcher signed to Ole Miss this weekend, so I got that going for me!

With the rain this spring we have only played six games. Finally, the forecast was good for the weekend but dd woke up Saturday morning with allergies that made her look like something from Dawn of the Dead. Eyes were bloodshot, sore throat, couldn't breathe. She was extremely frustrated with her condition. She ended up pitching and hitting very well. Not a high level tourney by any stretch but just to buck up, play, and support her teammates was great to see. She ended up pitching in all four games with 3 starts and one total run given up, including the gold bracket championship game where she went 5 innings with zero runs. The two games on Sunday was probably the worst physical oomph and command I have seen her have but she hung in there and cobbled together some pretty good games.

I am really proud of the way she kept fighting to support her team even when she did not have her normal stuff.
