2017 Recruit: Katherine Huey

DURHAM, N.C. – As the Duke Softball program continues their preparation for their inaugural season in 2018, we give you an inside look at the student-athletes that have cemented their legacy as part of the team’s foundation moving forward.

For this weekly series, Blue Devil Network’s own Rebecca Fiorentino will discuss the qualities and characteristics of each player with head coach Marissa Young, who, having served as an assistant coach at North Carolina, will be entering her first season as a head coach in the ACC.

In this week’s episode, we highlight Cummings, Ga., native Katherine Huey.

Huey, a three-time first team all-region honoree, earned Forsyth County Pitcher of the Year accolades in 2014 and 2016. Huey helped South Forsyth High School to consecutive top-five finishes in the Georgia state tournament in 2015 (6A) and 2016 (7A). She also played for the Atlanta Vipers travel organization.

Young on Huey: “We expect Katherine to provide support in the circle as well as contributing from the plate. Katherine has pitched her high school team to the Georgia state playoffs the past two years while taking her travel team to top-20 national finishes.”

I think future players bios should give a shout out to DFP. Were I given blanket editorial authority, the standard bio blurb would include something along the the lines of the following to be inserted after the travel team acknowledgement:

She also is a proud member of the DFP family, whose collective advice wisdom, and wit helped her avoid the common HE and STB maladies that prevent so many other talented, hardworking, and dedicated players from achieving their dream of playing college softball.

Just a quick attempt which I am sure can be improved by the thoughtful and provocative discussions for which this forum is known.

P.S. kudos to the DD JAD!
