Totally non softball related but need to brag about my husband who is currently less than a mile away from finishing the Boston Marathon.

DD's team played this weekend. Had a horrible weekend but DD herself did ok. She is little, and gets underestimated a lot. They played 2 teams that have been undefeated all season. She has been struggling hitting and her hitting coach told her she should slap this weekend instead as her timing was better. Well, she didn't like the pitching so she decided not to slap - but had 3 hits off of one of the undefeated teams, and 2 off the other. Over the 4 games she wound up with 8 at bats, 7 hits (1 double), 1 walk and 4 RBIs. She also proved her worth catching as she gunned 2 out at 3rd and one out at 2nd. So...although it was a rough weekend for the team, DD felt good about her own performance.

DD's team played strong in a tough HS tourney. She ended up 9-14 for the week and got her name in the paper for the state softball recap. Best part of the week was going 3-3 with a walk off line drive in ITB to beat a highly ranked team coached by a former coach of hers that she left because she wasn't getting much PT back in 10U. Went to the arch rival and started immediately and went on to beat them for about 2 years straight before they finally got us 3 or 4 times. Making it even better for her was the pitcher for them is the DD of a coach that didn't take her last summer and one of the best ones in the country at our age. You could tell DD was absolutely determined to win the game.

Walking away from the field one of their parents made the comment how we shouldn't be that excited because they were so young. One of our dad's let them know it was an 8th grader that just hit the walk off.

What is truly impressive is that your DH is about to finish a marathon, but you're checking DFP boards!! Now that's dedication! J/K.

Congrats to him, what a beauty of a day to be running it.

That is a very satisfying feeling! Our team is a no-name (known for baseball but softball program is brand new) and when we won 1st place gold bracket in a big fall tourney a coach asked our coach how many 05 girls we picked up to play that weekend. Zero, thank you very much, plus we have one 07 and our #1 pitcher is a late 06 (September). So there. Our hitting is unpredictable but our fielding is quite good so they probably do seem older than they are. We've heard, "That must be an older 06 team." Our first player only turned 11 in March; 2 more turn 11 in April. Most are later in the year. I love all the excuses. "They only beat us because..." Just say good game and don't be a baby.

LOL. C was at practice, younger brother and I were home getting text updates on the race. He finished but it wasn't pretty, he's taking a break from marathons for a while, this was #5 in the past 2 years. While it was nice for us it feels 15-20 degrees hotter to a marathon runner. He said runners were dropping like flies on Heartbreak Hill. He walked more than ran on the 2nd half.

DD is senior in college, last season going by way too fast!! She threw first perfect game in program history last night!! She told me after the game that during 7th inning she kept telling herself she needed to do it for her Dad. So proud of her! Next year with no softball will be rough..........for me!
