Some of you know that lil DD joined a pretty competitive team about 6 weeks ago. She knew she might have to sit a lot and the goal was to earn a lineup spot by the end of the season. She was really nervous about whether or not she was good enough to even be on the team since they are so good too to bottom. She did well in some friendlies, had some spotty hitting in others but generally trended up and has been hitting well. They had day 1 of the first tourney today (her first TB tourney) and she was a bundle of excited nerves for the last couple of days. She was prepared to sit all weekend but come game time she was right there in the 7 hole. Went 2 for 5 with 2 RBIs. But the fun part was in the third game-she sat the first part of the game but it was pretty close so they subbed her back in at the end and she led off the last inning with a base hit and the next batter knocked her in with a triple for an insurance run. This tourney is just a TCS glorified friendly, but half the teams in it are going to PGF so the competition is really good for 10s. I am really in awe of this kid, she just keeps rising to the occasion.

On a side note- a shout out to NorCal and central Ca. 4-5 teams made the drive from as far as Sacramento and they are little ballers. I was really impressed with how good all these 9-10 year old kids can play this game. Can't wait until tomorrow.

PS-on the ride home she kept asking about whether or not they give out trophies. Being the great, wise father I am, I told her just to have fun and take it one at bat at a time and play good D on every pitch and good results will come. "Focus on the process, and good results will take care of themselves". I said in my best Ward Cleaver tone. I was actually mentally patting myself on the back for giving her really good advice that she can apply to all areas of life all through adulthood when she said "meh....I just really want that trophy".

We got beat like a drum. The whole team just kind of shrank and played fearful, they just looked like a different team. We were dead in the water in the first inning when we walked the first two batters and went down 3-0. I don't think they have been in the position of having to battle back a lot so they just folded. DD went 0-2 on some weak grounders. Sucky way to end a good run but the fact is that there is one team out there in socal that is just a little more confident, hits a few more spots, makes a few less mistakes and the next level of teams behind them need to up their games a little to catch up. its a razor thin difference but it is very important.

Good job! That Batbuster team looks like they are pretty tough, so no shame in dropping one to them. I wonder why the cruisers weren't in there. I really like the way that team played when I saw them. Good luck! We will be in OC Memorial Day for TCS, then off to Vegas to play with the big girls.

I wondered why too, it would have been nice if they came and if FC Ollison showed up as well, but it was a really good weekend. Not one bad team on any field at any time. Some really good teams got bounced fast so we were happy to be around when the parking lot was getting empty.

Have you player FC Ollison yet? We have friends there. From the little I've seen, they look pretty solid.
