Select players playing rec ball – does your league ban it?

many leagues it depends on the level played A B etc.. not on the name of the level, travel select etc... We have a select program...but it is B ball... same as rec. I would make sure the rule says exactly what they think it says... Our regional league that my rec league is in, once you go A...

    Does Run Count

these are interesting threads. the "girl was tagged therefore not a force" is a HUUUUGE softball Myth in our regional leagues. this is for sure something I will emphasize with my umps going forward.

Slapper attempting bunt with 2 strikes

this is the classic "umpire got it right but explained it wrong" situation. As was said, what is causing the BAT to move is what makes it a bunt or not. not their feet, or any other movement....

what scoring APP is best for LEAGUE purposes?

your long suffering league president here... I use iscore for my personal team... I love the clean score book it produces, stats, spray charts.. But it is really hard to keep stuff straight, stats sync'd etc.. I would LOVE to push it to my entire league. What I need is to know which app if...

New fields... Removing rocks? Any Help?

Probably some of both.. Infield mix was clean. City prepped the underneath layer, working with my fields guy, and then spread it out. I think their method and not cleaning it enough pre red rock led to some mixing that didnt need to happen....

New fields... Removing rocks? Any Help?

JEE I DIDNT THINK OF THIS!!!! ;) We have been, and continue too.. I am just trying to see if there is a mechanical advantage I can get so they are playable sooner, and I dont have to blast my schedule of games all to heck.

New fields... Removing rocks? Any Help?

We worked with our city to renovate two fields this off season! We had a park where backstops and dugouts were installed, but never fields. We cut the sod, irrigated and red rocked.. BUT now we are having rocks migrating up... every time we drag, and as we constructed the fields we are...

    special treatment for a few

Issue here isnt playing time policy, it is lack of communication, and being shady by the HC. He told AC the kid missed, and was the #12, would sit mainly. Didnt. Shady as hell. He is not ommunicating policy and program to the parents. As HC, he can do whatever he wants... but he should man...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

FWIW, we didnt decline to make a mandate, I said in our opening discussions, it seemed to edge towards not... but I dont know. We will see. The issue I am hearing in my discussions is that the younger kids dont NEED it... But that it is hard to get the older kids to wear it once they are...

advice regarding a tricky parent situation

You are going above and beyond to step in between the primary contact, mom, and this guy... Probably the gentlemanly thing to do. He will likely brush her off anyway. Make sure it is legit, voted on, and on paper from the league.

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

I really appreciate all your comments. I was exposed to some arguments and thoughts that I hadnt considered, both for and against... I brought it up at my board meeting the other night and the discussion was very fruitful. We discussed it, and tabled to July's meeting to allow people to think...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

my current thoughts, were to require it for pitchers. Recommend they wear it all the time to get used to it... but required during pitching to live batters... I hadnt thuoght about approving only certain ones. Most have the rip it or game face... In the end, this is why I have a board with a...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

If as a league, or as the leader of the league, if we decide that a risk is present, how can we leave it to parents to choose? most will choose not to purely out of not wanting a bitchy player, or the $$$...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

My words were sarcastic and cavalier, fair enough... but my opinion wasnt formed that way... as was mentioned by djcarter, we can get sued for anything, any time... so I am thinking to edge towards safety improvements... Can I get sued if a girl gets drilled no mask? Yup. Can I get sued if...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

not at all. I have a strong opinion, but always interested in other viewpoints. I had thought about the NOCSAE angle, but the opposing view of other safety equipment we already use that isnt certified was something I hadnt thought of. I am sorry my rejection of certain peoples arguments,and...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

Again, I will ask, what does NOCSAE certification supposedly get me for liability coverage. As was mentioned below, there are MANY other safety gear items that are required, cups are a great example, that arent NOCSAE certified... or any other certification body... Does Nocsae guarantee me...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

So basically the objections stem from some fig leaf of supposed protection that NOCSAE certification brings? As if a lawyer cant get through that in about 9 seconds. When was the last time all your league's helmets were inspected for hair line cracks bends to masks, bad foam, etc... I can...

Requiring Facemask for pitchers... Possible league policy... THoughts?

IMHO , a softly thrown ball to the grill is not a realistic risk of catastrophic facial injury like a line drive is.
