    Playing club ball in college?

No idea. I don't know that juco is really an option anyways, as the nearest team is a 30+ mile drive.

    Playing club ball in college?

Jumping into this discussion as this is exactly what I'm looking for. My daughter is a sophmore at a local CC college. Not in any rush as she's paying her way, working 20+ hours a week. She was on a path to playing college ball, but covid destroyed everything including many offers she had...

    SHOWCASE VS INVTATIONAL

Eric F pretty much said it. Regular showcase anyone can show up. Invitational means you have to be invited. Any invitational my DD's team has been invited to, was a dang good showcase. Top teams, real competition, and lots of college coaches around. You also have a long list of colleges...

    Would moving fences back...

Baseball bats used to be hot just like softball bats. BPF was 1.15. BESR was the standard in college and HS. They had the same conversation we're having. They came up with the BBCOR standard and now HRs are far, far, harder to come by. I believe even "pitcher safety" was part of the...

    Would moving fences back...

With the BBCOR standard, not much. BBCOR is .50BPF, made to basically mimic that of wood. The positive you get with a composite bat is less hand sting and a larger sweet spot, and they're bricks... so they don't break like softball bats.

    Would moving fences back...

Moving fences back isn't feasible for lots and lots of fields. I still say deaden the bats some. However, around here, a LOT of fields are multipurpose with temp fences set at 225. I'd say at least half the fields my DD plays at have 225 fences. Still doesn't stop the sluggers though. It...

POLL~ is Fastpitch a Balanced sport now?

I'd love @CoreSoftball20 opinion here. They changed the ball in slowpitch just a few years ago. It's my understanding that the ball has become "mushier", but the bats easily changed to match the new ball so that it flies just the same. It's just a safer ball, because when it hits someone...

POLL~ is Fastpitch a Balanced sport now?

I would actually argue that this is the easiest to make. Baseball did it just a few years ago. First it was BBCOR for older kids from the MUCH hotter BESR standard, then it was the new USA standard for all the younger kids. It has really changed the game from what I've watched. The bat...

    2022 Anderson Rocketech

Dang, only drop 10. I was very interested in replacing my DD's ghost for USSSA play.

    When The Org “Hissy Quits”!

Personally, that email would have gone out to every single person I knew and posted on every softball board I could find where any single person knew him/her. I did this years ago on a forum I moderated when someone sent me such a similar message, but also involved threats of physical violence...

How many players are too many?

First year 16u, you'll have 2 or 3 players immediately looking for other teams. That is, unless you can always manage to properly rotate them. Rarely seen a team that's capable of that. 11 is the "perfect" size IMO. But everyone has opinions. :)

How many players are too many?

Age level? 3 pitchers is perfect. As long as they're relatively "good". A 4th can only be a 4th if she's learning and accepts she's only going to get minimal mound time. 13-14 is fine for an 18u team. Not so much for 10u.

Know a pitcher who threw mostly change ups?

I've seen several pitchers that threw mostly offspeed with a fastball as just a secondary pitch. I don't see those pitchers lasting deep into 18u territory. Personally, my DD would just wait on that changeup if she knew it was coming in the next pitch or two. Time it up like a slow pitch on a...

    How would you classify...

Yup yup yup! Camps are important, but I find ONLY if you're a powerhouse, or if they're expecting you. If you can afford to show up at EVERY camp that school puts on, your chances are better. Even then it's usually a cattle call. These camps are also damn expensive. 2 or 3 a month? That's...

    How would you classify...

I gotta admit, I think this Juco route will probably be a good one. This particular school is a pretty high level Juco, their win rate is around 80%. I think it might be a great place to start. She spent about 5 hours with them yesterday doing a campus visit, workout, and then going to lunch...

    How would you classify...

She visited a good community college today that's about 2 hours away. They didn't have on campus dorms, but they had preferred apartments right down the road that works with the school. All athletes room together, fully furnished, all inclusive. Cost was surprisingly affordable. The plus, in...

    How would you classify...

Small follow up. Amazing what communication does. While last year really screwed things up, first there ARE lots of colleges still looking for '21s. LOTS for '22s. How many colleges are there in your area? Fieldlevel is a damn good resource. Sign up and do a google like search for all...

if you're not going to swing at strikes...

I HOPE they're advocating for, "Swing if it's your pitch". However, I've known coaches that advocated never swinging at the first strike. My DD always exempted herself from that rule.
  19. J

    Batter remembering pitch calls?

I tell people this all the time. I think stealing signals is a huge portion of the game. I got this, straight up, from a camp my daughter did. The JMU coach had the catching portion. She said her entire job during a game is to steal signals. She said she would even go so far as to see the...
