Ernie Parkers Pitching Seminar Western KY U

Dana, The turnout was ok but it wasn't heavily advertised. Ernie and I did the clinic. Alot of information was presented on safety, mechanics, and pitch development. The Notre Dame clinic should be bigger. It will be for players, coaches, pitching instructors, and parents. The clinics are...

    Help with not leaning over.

I use a waist belt and resistance tubing. Basically, I stand in front of the pitcher and pull her toward me forcing her to hit the breaks and create the Wall. This has been a very good drill to fix posture and resistance issues. Hope it helps!

    Doug Gillis and Bill Hillhouse

Both are very good. Doug is very detailed and has a very good presentation. I haven't seen Bill yet but intend to some time soon. Based on my conversations with Bill, there are similarities between him and Doug. I would suggest going to both!

    Who Should Call Pitches?

I personally could not coach a game without calling pitches. I would get extremely bored sitting there! A good coach should call the game. Put it in your hands not the catcher or pitcher. Get them to trust your judgement. If a good hit happens off the pitch you called then tell them its your...

    Pitcher #3 -- Front/Side/Back Slow Mo...

I don't like her feet. She preturns the push foot and drags it sideways until the heel touches the ground. She also lands on her toe at foot strike which causes her body to hunch and lean to right. I can see a possible acl or back injury here. Look at the pic of Cat that sluggers posted...

Pitcher feedback - 11 years old

Some pretty good advice here. I do think her drive leg is way to high. As somebody stated before, no higher than the push leg knee. I actually prefer that the toe stays down similiar to a sprinter. As far as the drag I think it is really important to keep the drag foot heel up to avoid that...

    Comments on this pitcher, please

She could go after it a little more as sjsss says. Would like to see her actually push off a mound to see if that changes. Back foot drag is on side of foot. Tell her to keep her heel up. It's healthier on the knee, hip, and back. A little flex is ok with the front leg as long as your...

    HD Slow Motion video Erin

Quality is good and mechanics look pretty good! What camera is this?

help with a 9 year old

You can get 2 of those little kid punching bags that you blow up. Put one in the right handed batters back and one in the left. Tell her to focus on the glove. But, remember she is 9 years old so I would say this is pretty common.

    Comments on my 10yo DD

I see alot of issues here! Feet are terrible! I would start with the feet. Straight push foot with a heel up drag. She also needs to hit the brakes and not walk through her pitch. When she does this right let her throw a ball. Her follow through is not healthy either. Tell her fist to...

    Mechanical makeover in progress

I dont like the high follow through way above the head. Be natural! Your hand naturally wants to go on a angle in the direction of your face. Don't force the finish! The finish should look uncoached and natural to how the body works. Good example is Bill Hillhouse. Bill Hillhouse: Bahamas...

    Pre turning rhp

I think video is the best tool. Just video the feet and show her what she is doing. I use the 1 foot starts to get her to feel the straighter push foot. Pretty hard to turn that foot in this drill. If your gonna do this drill tell the pitcher if she loses balance to start over. We always...

    Open vs Closed Pitching Style

I dont agree with your statement about thinking a pitcher has to be a gifted athlete. I have alot of kids who in my opinion are not even close to gifted and they are very successful pitchers. If the kid wants to work at it and put the time in to it, she can be successful. Last weekend while...

    Open vs Closed Pitching Style

As far as open or closed, in my opinion you shouldnt be either at release. The study shows 45-52 degrees at release. I believe that is very accurate and in my opinion safer and easier to throw all of the pitches without making adjustments to throw spin pitches. As Bill stated we dont want...

    The Leap

Good advice! Its not about how high or far you go, its about momentum. There is no perfect stride length. Push straight, hit the brakes and allow the arm to whip max.

    Open vs Closed Pitching Style

We all know that there are alot of great pitchers with poor mechanics. The taller girls with long levers can get away with more mechanical flaws than most smaller lever girls. I think what needs to be addressed is safety. What is the safest way to pitch. I think the olympic study stated...

    Ernie Parker Pitching Conference

Just wanted everybody to know that Ernie Parker is putting on a pitching instructor conference at the University of Western Kentucky Saturday, October 10th. Ernie is one of the best instructors in the country. Trained Finch, Fernandez, and other olympians throughout the years. The clinic is...

    Hitting Mechanics vs. Hitting

Im not saying to teach an infant how to hit location and movement, I am just saying that if you spend all of your time hitting a down the middle pitch then you won't be too successful at the collegiate level. It's just like pitching. There are pitching coaches who want kids to locate a...

    Hitting Mechanics vs. Hitting

I think alot of coaches focus on just the mechanics. The problem with this is kids struggle with location and movement. A good hitting coach will discuss contact points with hitters. They will also discuss movement and what to look for to recognize what pitch is coming. I think its important...

    Lean back on Release

I like to use a bungie chord attached to a waist belt. I simply pull her toward me and help her get more momentum. The pitchers job is to hit the brakes and maintain a tall posture position without walking through her pitch. This helps them feel resistance which creates better whip. I have...
