    Extra Inning Team Rankings

They are a very good team. We've played them a number of times over the past few years, always tight games.

    First Varsity HR

Every time I video she pops out, haha! Hit her second HR yesterday...but I wasn't there for that game.

    First Varsity HR

My freshman daughter hit her first Varsity HR yesterday. A no doubter to left field to tie the game in the 6th inning. Even better is that her team pulled out the win in the 10th inning. Great game!

    Natural right-hander who throws lefty?

I am a lefty, but my parents divorced when I was 4. So, when my dad taught me to play baseball he didn't realize that I was lefty, so he taught me right handed. After a year or so, I switched to throwing lefthanded, but to this day I still bat right-handed. In fact, throwing and writing are...

    Player safety when injured

I agree, it's def a fear when my 12yr old son pitches. I wish masks were acceptable in baseball. Wasn't it a Clemson coach that got hit in the head with a foul ball in the dugout recently?

    Player safety when injured

It's unfortunate that it takes an injury to highlight how unprepared most teams are or the gap in their policies. When a child had a head, face, neck, or obvious broken bone the EMS should be called first. Second, I hope at some point we get over the "I'm too old to wear a mask" BS, or worse...

    HS Softball Started

My freshman daughter has been anxiously awaiting HS softball season. We had to hire a new coach in Oct (the varisty boys soccer coach) because the coach from last year was not retained (after only a year on the job). As a result of the late start, we didn't have a real winter workout, only...

College Roster Sizes, sorry some of you don't get to go with us~

Speaking of, here is a tool that might help you analyze school stability: https://www.bain.com/insights/how-financially-stable-is-your-college-interactive/

College Roster Sizes, sorry some of you don't get to go with us~

This is a real thing. Many NAIA and D3 schools are financially insolvent, or very close to it. They know that parents want to brag that their kids play college ball, and use that as a revenue stream that may keep the college doors open. In many cases for marginal prospects, picking a higher...

Player Age when 1 grade lower

Our HC's daughter is 1 year younger than the rest of our 2nd year 14u team (great player BTW). She is playing the Spring season with our 1st year 14u team and then will join us in June when we start. Same thing happened last year - we had a 2nd yr 14u girl who was in 8th grade join our team...

What’s the smallest and largest tournament you’ve been to?

I think TNT Showcase had about 210 teams total last year, so that would prob be the biggest. As far as just our age group, prob low 40's? Smallest? Not sure, we try to be pretty proactive about switching tournaments if there aren't at least 6-8 teams registered by a month or so out.

    Travel Time for Practice

Usually about 35min each way for practice 2x per week (but can be about 50 min if traffic is bad) - this is for a local/regional team. A few years ago we were considering a high profile team about 1hr 10min away. It would have been a good opportunity, but I'm so glad we didn't make that...

    Clearwater Invitational

I was there last year and I thought there was a lot of offense, but this year it's ridiculous. I think the fact that so many top end pitchers graduated is playing a big part in the increased scoring. Those dominant pitchers limited opportunities for a lot of other pitchers to develop in-game...

    East Coast IDT

Yeah, they are in the back right corner, past where they have the batting cage. We played a tournament there in the Fall and they were begining to clear and level the area. I've got my issues with the place: those damn red docks the put down that color everything they touch red, the snack bar...

    East Coast IDT

The have a dome with a full sized field on site, and have an on-site hotel opening either this year or next. Also, I believe they are in the process of adding 3(?) more fields. Look, they aren't going to displace any of the larger national events overnight. I think their goal is to be a...

What’s it like playing in a dome?

Biggest thing in our area is that the tournaments start late afternoon/early evening (because they are booked during the day with soccer leagues), so the games can run until well past midnight - we won the championship at one tournament and didn't get out of there until about 2:30am! Other than...

Your TEAM SCHEDULE vs the competition levels.

I think it's easy to say, "You should schedule to be .500!", or you should have a certain ratio of quality of teams, or you should always play the best, etc. The reality is that there are too many variables for a one size fits all approach. Are you a first year team? Are you a local...

    Things to Remember - Coaching

2 things: 1) The play is not over when an out is made. Always pay attention to the runners on base and/or get the ball back to the pitching circle asap. 2) Everyone should be moving on every play - it's easy to move when the ball is in your general area, but teach them all where they are moving...

Travel Ball vs. HS Sports vs. other club sports

We are a 2nd year 14u team (all of our girls just started 9th grade), and we dealt with this issue big time in the Fall. It's amazing how every coach talks about encouraging "multi sport athletes", but when the rubber hits the road, their team better be the priority. I have to say, our club...
