If you had to do it all over again....

I had a batting cage, quite honestly.....dd didn't use it much. It got used way more for lacrosse shots. Not much time when practice 3 days per week, and play on weekends , most of year, to do extra at home. She did go bat with a university asst coach once per week part of yr too

The other side to the "Multi-Sport Athlete"

I knew one player that went to college to play basketball.......ended up playing softball instead. I knew another that went to college to play softball.........ended up playing basketball. Good athletes, are good athletes at more than 1 thing usually.

DIII and Financial Aid - what's your experience?

Most of that article is horse$hit. "Even though American colleges are expensive (the very top-tier US universities charge up to around $60,000 per year for fees and living costs), most also now offer “billions in discounts each year,” Lieber write" 60k is closer to just the tuition cost at...

DIII and Financial Aid - what's your experience?

Most important is your child goes to a school they WANT to go to.....if it can be managed....at all I know, money is important.....but it is not everything. Whats cheapest for parents.....shouldnt be the main driver in decision. College pricing is a complete scam. You are charged based on...

    travel ball regrets

All depends on location. Even in high travel ball areas...theres districts with teams with no TB players, no real coaches. They are....pathetic.

Team is a vehicle for coach's daughter, not much more.

Many teams get started solely to give a daughter a place to play. They often struggle, the daddy (or mommy) coach learns thru Hard knocks.....maybe. After a few years they may be a decent coach, but probably ho hum. If their presence is giving YOUR daughter a team, a place to play she...

How many TB teams has/did your DD play for?

Teams....or organizations? 1 org. 14U, 16U, 18G Could not imagine playing for anyone else. Makes me very sad to think her coaches wont be around by time I have a granddaughter play. Org. will probably be gone with them. They still keep up with all the girls years later on facebook, all...

New(ish) player on an established team

Getting along is mandatory Being friends, isnt. Teams are going to change yr to yr. Choosing kids and parents that work well with the team , is the coaches job. There are good players passed over because of other reasons, including parents behaviors. There were players and parents we didnt...

    travel ball regrets

Many HS teams are lucky to have 1 TB player. Others are 80% of team. Few HS softball teams are alike, there is very wide disparity. The common theme....you need 1 decent travel ball pitcher to be competitive. You cant take any girl and make her a good pitcher. Not every team has that.

If you had to do it all over again....

Get her started in softball earlier Make her learn to pitch One of DDs biggest flaws, was not liking to work at things that didnt come easy to her. A good pitching coach started teaching her....too difficult...didnt want to try. Embarrassed around others that could at 13 yo. Overhand speed...

    open gym

That's great . HS has a lot of pressure to take Sr and upperclassmen over freshmen. There's a lot of pressure to get all Sr. letters too. In other words.....it can be a bit rigged player selection. So no matter the outcome, do not be discouraged.

Frustration with composite bats - material inside breaks apart far too soon

Nobody asked bat companies to change the game. They figured out how to get every youth player...boy and girl...to give them $300/yr ftom age 10-18. About $2400 each. And wonder why no lower income kids play this game. When i was a kid....teams had the same Al bats....for years. No one had...

Frustration with composite bats - material inside breaks apart far too soon

Batting practice is soft toss Know exactly how far ball goes when hit 100 balls per day Can easily tell performing bat from nonperforming The scam...is that its about the bats as much as the girls sometimes. The switch was to make softball more exciting....a long ball game....a spectator...

Frustration with composite bats - material inside breaks apart far too soon

Ask your daughter.....they will tell you when bat loses pop. With my dd, it was easy to see. Bats maybe better now, i doubt it. 200 hits. And bat was toast. That could be 100 hits and 100 foul balls....if even that. Some sooner if cracked...you could hear a sound change and well hit balls...

    travel

My daughter was very athletic. Thats what helped her catch on quickly. She also played baseball with boys until that point......and was a pitcher. She could throw....baseball...football....she had a fantastic arm .....not just for a girl.....for a boy or girl. But softball is also about...

Ten most important things for an infielder to do

Stay down Field ball out in front Get rid of ball quickly

    Overhand throw speed

My daughter was 65-66mph at 15. Last time i measured. With a $$$$ juggs gun. She has best arm on girl I ever saw. College coaches ...and umpires...were very impressed with arm.....she played 3B, only 1 girl on her college team could catch her at 1B. Her putouts at 1B were like rifle...

How good are you at Softball?

When my dd was 13.....her arm was officially better than mine. Lose the stretch reflex with age. I was struggling to hit 68 mph with baseball.....she was hitting 74 mph.
