Scott passed away the week before Thanksgiving. He was a great coach, friend, and mentor to many in the softball community.
A memorial has been scheduled, details quoted below were posted by his daughter Kelly Welch, on his Facebook page. Any updates would presumably be posted there as well.
After several weeks of tearing it up in tryouts, when to all appearances all the passion and love of the game that have been leeched out of her the last few seasons, she told me she's not going to do this anymore.
She's had a trail of cr@ppy coaches, kept thinking this time maybe we found...
Went to some 14's and 16's tryouts this weekend, a few with very prominent org's and was more than a little surprised at some of the gaffe's they made.
We talk a lot about how parents should behave to avoid making a negative impression at tryouts, but the team/coach/org are being evaluated too...
Not going to cry about ads on the site, they pay the bills and are fairly innocuous, but I think it's a little off to advertise 18-27 year old women available to date on a forum about youth sports for young women.
If it's possible to filter out certain categories of ads, I think it would be better.
Is it just me, or does it seem like the more unfair/disorganized/abusive the coaches, the more they push "team bonding" ota's so they can pretend things are all rosy?
A friend stumbled onto an interesting take ton the 24h rule. Their coach invoked the rule after the team meeting on Sunday night, and had the player call them next day.
I guess I never looked into the wording of it, but always thought the rule applied to parents and coaches, and it's a good one...
Had a gratifying parent moment this weekend from a thoroughly unexpected direction.
Played a well-regarded coach with a competing program and got stomped.
In the car DD told me that the opposing coach had come right up to her, told her that she remembered her from last year and how impressed she...
Not sure there's anything new here, or any way to determine where the truth lies, but the whole story on one page is worth a read.
Once-proud Stanford softball program brought to its knees - San Jose Mercury News
One of our runners sustained a serious knee injury after the fielder, standing squarely behind the base and moved further into foul territory to field the ball.
Seeing a lot of this in HS ball, F3 standing in an awkward position, either forcing the runner to deviate into foul territory after...
This was told on local sports radio the other night and I thought it was worth sharing in light of the recent threads on college recruiting.

IS this explicitly stated somewhere? I'd like to upload a jpg without playing battleship to find the right size.
Doc's claim the uploader will give specific limits, but the current incarnation does not.
Starting new org. in Theory, Utopia.
Some details about our program:
In Theory, there is no practice.
In Theory, all coaches are qualified, and fair.
In Theory, only the best talent will come to tryouts.
In Theory, players will be perfectly matched to team and position.
In Theory, playing time...
This has bugged me for a while so I thought I'd crowdsource it.
If you have observed a ball contact a catcher's throwing hand while it was behind the glove, please chime in. If you saw it on TV or video that would be fine too, perhaps ideal. I'd just like to keep it empirical and not...
Situation came up tonight:
Runners at 1B,2B. Ball hit to CF, throw home to try for a play at the plate on the first runner.
Throw goes wide on the 3B side, C turns to go after the ball, but is impeded by the runner that just scored, so second runner also scores.
The first runner turned toward...
