So, in this case it worked out ok, but not necessary because anyone (including me) knew the rule correctly. The coach took two trips "to the line" in that inning (which the umpire incorrectly indicated weren't charged as conferences) and two trips to the mound the next inning. On his second...
My team played a 10U rec game the other day and had something happen that I hadn't encountered before. The opposing coach (his team on the field at the time) called time, stood just outside the 3rd base line and called his pitcher (and only his pitcher) over to confer. Play resumed and a...
We go to Batter's Choice in Petersburg, VA (just south of Richmond). They also sell stuff over their website, so I can usually look up on the website if they have something before I drive to the store.
Any suggestions for drills or other practice techniques that can be done alone? My DD (14) will hit off a tee sometimes or use a Hit-Away, but I'd like to have other useful things that she can do when she doesn't have anyone else to practice with.

Does anyone have any experience with the Easton Natural Elite Catcher's Mitt? My 14U daughter is in need of a new catcher's mitt and likes the look of this one (it matches the Easton Natural Elite fielding glove she got a few months ago and loves).
Easton Natural Elite 33 inch Fastpitch...
Our rec league currently have 8U girls play slow pitch, they have a choice of fast or slow at 10U, and fast exclusively from 12U up. For the last several years number of 10 slow teams has dropped and the number of 10U fast teams has risen, so now most of the girls go from 8U slow to 10u fast...
My daughter wears rec specs, similar to these: Rec Specs Maxx-20 Sunglasses
Hers are prescription (got them from Lenscrafters), but I'm sure you can get them as just plain sunglasses. They come with an elastic headband that she doesn't use, and they sit tight to her face so they don't get in...
We bought one a few years ago and it worked pretty well. About once a year, when I see bad habits coming back, she'll get it out and spend a few hours throwing with it (over the course of a week), and it will usually straighten her out. I always have to get the instructions out to make sure...
Happened to my DD recently. One error and she was pulled from the game in the middle of the inning. Wasn't lack of hustle or effort, she misjudged a fly ball to left field and let one drop that could have been caught. I wouldn't have minded if it had been the only error made by the team, but...
My daughter has played 3 years on travel teams, but just recently made the JV team. Other than the fact they play a full 7 innings, are there any rule differences? I don't want to be thinking to myself that the coach is doing something crazy when it may just be a rule difference that I'm not...
This definitely sounds more like a courtesy runner for the catcher, rather than an actual "substitution". Almost all the tournaments that we play allow for a runner for the catcher and for the pitcher; the runner is either the last out or a bench player (depending on the rules of the tournament).
My DD played with the Miken Rain Lite (32/20) all last season and loved it. If you are looking for a -12 drop bat she would recommend it. I have seen it sold lately at local store for around $200.
I have a 14 yo daughter who had surgery in December to repair a broken arm. She now has a plate permanently in the upper part of her arm, down to her elbow, and she is just now starting to practice again. Her doctor recommended that we look at getting her an elbow pad for when she is batting...
Have always used the RF to back up throws to first, except when the RF is throwing to first, and then the catcher backs up.
I just can't see the benefit of having the catchers running with all the gear on when the RF can do it just as well, by my DD plays 14U, so maybe when they get older the...
We got the New England Catching Camp DVD a couple of months ago, and it has been a HUGE help for my 13 y/o daughter. She has started blocking really well (no passed balls her last game, although the pitcher really gave her a workout) and she has a great head for the game.
The only real issue...
My daughter isn't happy on her current 14U travel team, and wants to go to tryouts for other teams. The team that she most wants to play for (and of course the most competetive and the one she is least likely to make), is last, after some other tryouts that she is more likely to get a position...
My 12U daughter started catching last fall and has really taken to it and enjoys it. She has done fairly well with it, but still has issues with blocking. She understands that she should drop and block with her chest, but hasn't yet overcome her fear of getting hurt; so a lot of balls in the...
