Got rid of Brentt Eads
No longer ranks 7th/8th graders
Guessing some backlash from last year when they had that big screw up with high school ratings and got a lot of criticism for ranking younger players.
For those considering USSSA All American games in future years—Just wanted to share my experience.
For context: DD is 13u plays 14A PGF, Triple Crown, Scenic City type events. She no longer plays USSSA but had always wanted to try out the games and some of her friends were going. She tried...
What have folks seen with how 16u gets utilized?
In the Northeast I’ve seen some orgs often move top players straight from 14 to 18 and skip 16s completely. Or they use 16u for stronger 14s and a few 15s.
Just curious how the 16u grouping gets used differently at the different levels of play.
Saw a weird situation unfold yesterday:
As best as I understood the events:
20 team unsanctioned event held by large well known org. 14u—-essentially field consists of all A level teams within a 100 mile radius.
Cash prize for first place
Organization A enters 2 teams. One is basically...
For a 14u Regional showcase team on the East coast. What would you expect in terms of number of events entered over a spring/summer season?
Big name franchised org.
14A Northeast US
NY/NJ showcase events—-so fairly decent quality ball for the NE.
Seeing recently what seems like a lot more “junkballers”. By junkballer I mean almost no fastballs and limited change-ups. Weak velocity and 80% or more offspeed curveballs.
I guess it’s a way for non-elite...
Player is 2nd year 12u and in 7th grade (1st year of MS eligibility in this area).
MS Team practices 5 nights a week plus Saturday AM. Games are always during week.
Travel team holds optional practices ( largely for for non-MS players) during week, 1 weekend practice plus 2 April weekend...
2010 birth year pitcher
1 day tourney played over 8 hours
Pitches per game:
Game 1: 95
Game 2: 12
Game 3: 94
Game 4: 49
Total: 250 over 13 innings
Does this type of workload increase risk of injury?
I was following a somewhat local 12u team playing in a dome tournament today.
Immediately after the tournament ended one of the parents moms was on Facebook posting that they are looking for another team. Theorizing that a hissy-quit likely took place.
Made it through the entire off-season but...
Lately I’ve seen a bunch of new organizations pop up on Facebook who are advertising themselves as “Travel Rec” or “Rec Travel” programs.
Interesting marketing ploy—curious what it means.
Maybe a rec team that plays some local tournaments?
At the younger age groups, it seems losing the bottom 2-3 players every year is common as they often seek a team where they fit as a starter.
Has anyone dabbled with just going with a roster of 10 and having recurring guests available as needed? Guest players are plentiful in our area.
Looks like USSSA in PA/NJ really pushing going to pay at plate.
As an example of the math:
Last year, it cost $650 to enter states at 12u.
This year it’s $532 to enter plus $60 pay at plate.
With 3 pool games plus at least 1 bracket game that’s an additional $240 which equals $772 total. An...
Anybody follow any Facebook softball pages like “The Fastpitch Zone”?
I have been amusing myself reading it the last few days. My favorite are the posts from parents whose daughter is the best player on the team yet is always sitting the bench.
They share their tale of woe about how the coach...
Watched a replay of a 12u 2021 LLWS Softball game btw Oklahoma and NJ.
No radar but announcer commented OK pitcher was throwing low 60s. Maybe true, maybe not.
Anyway, I was totally amazed at the strike zone. The umpire was consistently giving the pitchers the call on balls that were totally...
