I don't disagree, but I think it is in her mind that a catchers mitt isn't the way to go. If we haven't already begun to play, I would likely move forward with the Vinci Fortus and play with it. Our current pitcher isn't throwing extremely fast, so I am comfortable with a 1B mitt for now. If...
She does both, but as of right now she is mostly behind the plate. I bought her a Mizuno youth catchers mitt and she tried another brand (not sure which), but she didn't like either; she went right back to her fielders glove.
I was leaning toward the FP Gold series 12.25, since it is softball specific. I will try to research on each though. I'd like to get something she can be using within a few weeks.
Said the 12" may not be big enough for a 12" ball, which she will be using this spring for school ball. Could probably handle the 12.25 if she has good hand and wrist strength.
Thanks. She currently used a 12" Shoeless Jane fielders glove. I was waiting until she could handle a 12.5 1B mitt, but current team needed a catcher. She doesn't like catchers mitt, so I may bite the bullet and get a 12" 1B mitt. Thinking middle of road quality, since we will likely have to...
After much research for a catchers mitt, I think I’m going to get her a 1B mitt. What are some good mitts for a 10 year old? She currently uses a 12” Shoeless Jane, which she caught with today.
Ended up finding a used Mizuno Prospect Select 32-1/2" on Justballgloves.com for about $35 shipped. I figured it would be in bad shape, but wanted something for her to start practicing with and use in a tournament in a couple weeks, until I decide on the Vinci Fortus. The mitt came in...

I see a couple used ones for 180-200 on just gloves, trying to find the differences in the L and W models. Do Nokona’s have deeper webs? Really surprised to see a 32-1/2” model for $400 new.
A lot of the youth gloves are 31-1/2, but I think it is small. I’ve been considering 32-1/2-33, but most of them don’t give me the option of left hand throw.
She loves the catchers position so far and she has wanted to play there for about a year. I’m not strongly in favor of it, but also support whichever she likes. It just so happened that out team needed a catcher and tried her and a few others that can throw to 2nd.
We don’t have any...
Would like to stay around $150. May end up taking chance on the All-Star 3001. I don’t have much confidence that she will be able to handle or break in a 33-1/2” mitt though.
I agree 100% Fort. I’m just concerned with her being able to handle an adult 33”+ mitt at 10. Honestly, with a Youth type mitt, I expect it will last through fall ball (few tourneys) and maybe a little into spring.
