    Tee work

I use the tee as a warmup but I try to keep the drills limited. On the tee for the most part I just like moving the ball around and telling them to hit it at a target. I'll pull out a drill to teach them something new from time to time or fix a problem but it will be limited to 1 or 2 drills...

    Crack or No Crack?

Is this something that would typically be handled by warranty claim? She says it feels different but I’m not sure.

Is it unreasonable to assume that club coaches will develop hitting?

This is a great thread. My kids hit with me at least 3-4 times a week depending on the time of the season. 90% is front toss and I would say we get a minimum of 100 swings in. This is when they get better at hitting not at team practice! I coach my sons team and during the season there is...

Ximena 7 years old - Update April '21

At that age just throw balls at her and keep it fun. She has a great base. Just focus on getting her to hit balls between the Second Basemen and Shortstop. Let her figure it out. Let her build balance, rhythem, timing.

Bonesaw, I'm not a kinesiologist. I'm sure you are right about the oblique muscle not being able to lift the leg. I was just trying to explain a feel I get when I load my body in a certain way. When I press my heel into the ground and load the middle of my body I can feel my foot/leg want to...

If I had to pick which happens first between picking the front leg up or loading into the ground it would have to be loading into the ground or the gather. Loading into the ground first makes it easy to pick up the front leg the right way. Here is Miggy gathering before his swing. He is not...

Another thought is get your leg up while crunching down with the core that action presses my rear heel into the ground and loads the leg.

Does stay tall mean don't move your head backward? Load against your head while still loading that rear glute area. Would you say this action takes place as the leg is being lifted or before or depends....? My observation is that it is one move. At least in the Trout and Betts example above...

    Sr Year

Over the last year I was only able to work with DD a hand full of times.... During this time I gave her two goals........ 1) Move from the middle and kill everything else...... 2) Create as much crossbody tension as possible on every swing...... If you do #1, #2 will be the result but just going...

    "Peel the heel"

The angles are different and the sequence is different to. Her hands are loaded Yelich doesn't get them loaded until the foot touches the ground the moment before launch. Notice the downhill shoulders at landing vs uphill.

    "Peel the heel"

Looks like 2 moves to me as well. You can see the gather in the Mookie swing but it looks more like the result of getting the front leg up and maintaining posture. HIs mid section moves back slightly.

    "Peel the heel"

Patter, Was he talking about the front heel? I always thought of peeling the heel as the torso pulling the back heel off the ground opposed to driving with the leg.

    Swing Critique? 10u

I love the fact that she is in there against velocity in early February. It's hard to watch them struggle but it is necessary! Front toss from up close and tee all off season does not get them prepared. I use the velocity work as a test of sorts. I don't say anything about mechanics but I...

    Swing Critique? 10u

I would leave her hands/arms alone. She is reaching with the stride foot. Her move looks exactly like my daughters did a year ago. Look at her hips in relation to that red exercise ball in the background. Watch how far her head goes back when she gathers. Notice how doesn't really go...

    Hip/Shoulder Separation

I see his hands, both of them, down and forward from where they started in both stills. When you say rearward are you referring to how the bat starts on the right side of his body an finishes on the left toward the opposite dugout in the follow through? I don't understand what is rearward...

    Hip/Shoulder Separation

I agree with you force must be applied to the handle of the bat. To me the force on the bat is forward though not rearward. Pull the bat down and forward against a leveraged hips.

    Simple swing

Can you explain back against the head? Does that mean weight the back leg by driving the back foot into the ground without moving your head back and causing a sway back?

    Simple swing

I watched him play growing up he was an amazing CF!

    Simple swing

I do seem to remember him having a higher leg kick than the swing in that video. He was a powerful man for sure but he was also very efficient!
