    Does Size Matter in S.B.?

My DD may grow a little bit more in height, but not much. She is just over 5' She is likely to take after me with being vertically challenged. She has figured out without us having to tell her, that in her case, it is going to take more effort to succeed. She is short and weighs less than...

    8U vs 10U

My DD didn't have the 8U option. She was 8 when she started travel ball at 10U. It worked out great for her. She adjusted just fine and played 3 years of 10U. If she is above average, I would move her up to 10U.

    Defense, can anybody play anywhere?

Denise....definitely consider speed and agility training! My dd went from 3.0 down to 2.8 in 1 year just from speed and agility. She also was always the long, lanky kid at 10U - 14U and then grew into her body. No one ever assumed she had Thank you. I’ve been trying to convince my husband of...

    Defense, can anybody play anywhere?

Amen to this!! Every team my DD has been on consists of at least a couple girls that can’t side. Even at the A level. My DD has been sliding since early 10u. Since then she has learned different types of slides, but basic slide should be mandatory.

    Defense, can anybody play anywhere?

It is a generalized statement that I see quite often making it look like OF is so easy anyone can do it. This forum has enough softball knowledge to know the difference for the most part, but some other groups I follow don't have a clue!

    Defense, can anybody play anywhere?

DD has always been the fastest player on any of her teams. She isn't quite elite speed, but fast enough to be a successful slapper. Depending on who does the testing, she varies from 2.9 to 3.01 by professionals. None of them have been done by parent. This is without any agility training. I...

    Defense, can anybody play anywhere?

This is an interesting post and I have the same thoughts about playing multiple positions, especially in the older age groups. My DD played pitcher and SS for 3 years in 10U. First year 12U she played pitcher, SS, and CF. For second year 12U she joined an A team for the first time. She was no...

The appeal of a "non-parent" coach

My DD had parent coaches through 12U. We were lucky to not have any terrible parent coach experiences along the way. This season is her first year with non-parent HC at first year 14U. In our experience, this season has been the best so far. My DD switched to slap hitting one year ago. The...

    Names on Uniforms

We do last name and number. We are first year 14U team. If someone locally has a Cricut machine, you can ask them to add the last name to her jersey with iron on vinyl or a local business that does it. I added my DD's name and number to the back of a couple of her hoodies along the way, using...

Is Slapping going to be a thing of the past?

This is a post from a local showcase tournament my DD will be attending this weekend. Apparently some college coaches are planning ahead for slappers (LHS). “If you have anyone interested in Morehead State here are their needs and they have a camp coming up in November. They are not able to...

    Miracle League.

I'm thinking my daughter and my son could be co-buddies. Looks like the league is late spring early summer, so if my daughter has softball tourney, my son could fill in for her on those weekends. It sounds like an amazing experience for all involved!

    Miracle League.

Thank you for sharing this! Your post made me a bit teary eyed. I sense the emotion through your words! I had no idea this network existed and it looks like we have a league very close to where I live. I am definitely going to look into this for my kids.

"Bully" coach or are we over reacting.

This coach is ruining the mental game of every girl on the team. Being held accountable by your coach is a good thing, but berating them will only lead to an increase in errors. Are there any other teams in the area for your DD? This sounds toxic.

Is Slapping going to be a thing of the past?

We will have to continue to make "hitting away" a priority these next couple years just in case. Hopefully having that plus speed will be an advantage. Praying she keeps her speed.

Is Slapping going to be a thing of the past?

w I totally agree with you. My DD's pitches seen average is right in the middle as far as her team goes. I just know she sees the ball way better than she did on the right side. Maybe part of that is maturity as she has adjusted to playing at this level.

Is Slapping going to be a thing of the past?

My DD is the same. This fall, she has had five at bats with 7 pitches, one with 9, one 10, one 12, and one 13. She fouls them off until she finds the right pitch. Sometime it ends in a strikeout, but she definitely sees the ball better now.

Is Slapping going to be a thing of the past?

This is true. My DD strikes out a lot (highest number on the team), but even with the strikeouts, she has the highest batting average this season so far. Not a fan of the strikeouts, but she has been doing it for not quite a year.

Is Slapping going to be a thing of the past?

We are definitely working on swinging away also. It depends on the team and how skilled the slappers are. We came across a Hotshots team in Kansas City at Nationals that had 7 left handed batters, 6 of them were slappers. They were an amazing team. The coach told us that only one of the 7 was...

Is Slapping going to be a thing of the past?

I was never a fan either until people and coaches started recommending it. Then I started paying closer attention to slappers. It has been the biggest confidence booster for my DD and has multiplied her love for the game. Even if slapping does come to an end, we still have no regrets!
