    Spin rate and Velocity

If you are spinning the ball to get movement, it will curve continuously from release. If you are using yawed bullet spin then there is an optimal alignment where the Seam Shifted Wake Force that Armwhip referred to, is the greatest. If the orientation is not optimal, it will break less When it...

    How to pitch a...

well bill, i guess you're just going to have to come to san diego so I can show you in person... although I think weeknight ace may live closer to you... did you watch the original video I posted with rod cross on veritasium... let me ask you this... do they have movement when they pitch a...

    How to pitch a...

good point... i never thought to ask him what the wind conditions were like in his backyard... the right wind direction most definitely enhances the movement on this pitch... blowing out to right center is the best...

    How to pitch a...

exactly my thinking... like everyone else, i was pretty surprised when I first started throwing this slider... especially since I wasn't spinning it like we are all used to seeing on movement pitches... but, because I was the only one who had it, I figured i'd stumbled onto something... but...

    How to pitch a...

it's not like it's going to hurt if it hits you bill... in slow pitch, if the ball hits you, you get laughed at... :) i wouldn't actually say I hang out here... i only have 45 comments in over 5 years... but to answer your question, I developed tendonitis when I was 20 and I found that...

    How to pitch a...

no... i've always played in rec leagues with some tournaments when I was younger... to be honest, I've been laughed out of a couple of slowpitch sites because, like most of you, no one believes it's true... i happened on it accidentally and threw it for 20 years without knowing what made it...

    How to pitch a...

it's a grip like a spilt finger fastball... he uses it to get more spin... i think it makes it a tougher pitch than most people can throw... and I doubt you would be able to use it in fastpitch back hand but maybe forehand...

    How to pitch a...

i disagree... but it's not something most slowpitch pitchers know about, but you can get movement in slow-pitch with yawed bullet spin... and I don't even spin it that much... it just rolls off my hand...

    How to pitch a...

you will notice that this does exactly what I say mine does... breaks on the downside... since we play with an arc, if it's oriented down then it won't move until it starts to go down... in fast pitch, you have more of a flat plane to deal with...

    How to pitch a...

actually, most leagues have homerun rules and monster hitters are not that common... most league players are just guys getting off work and playing ball... and we don't run out home runs to save time since we're on a clock... no doubt about it... slow pitch is a hitters game... but if you don't...

    How to pitch a...

i've told you before that i throw a slider in slowpitch... with a forehand release... I've followed weeknight ace since he started posting and I know he gets what he says he gets... just last night I had 2 people from the opposing team telling me about how my pitch starts out aimed right at them...

    catcher OBS?

the entire plate is in fair territory so i'm not sure this is correct... blocking the entire plate can easily be done in fair territory...

    Bullet spin rise?

don't forget to make a bullseye ball so you can see what's happening... then hold the ball so the leading smooth spot leads the way... however that might be... 😎

    Bullet spin rise?

i don't want to confuse this issue so keep in mind... this post is about another way we get movement in slow pitch without using a single smooth spot... i have some pics to help show what i'm saying... this is the orientation i use to get a screwball with left to right movement... the 1st pic...

    Bullet spin rise?

here's a few pictures to show what i mean... in these pictures, the direction the ball is moving is straight at you... the 1st picture shows normal bullet spin with the spin axis directly through the center of the large smooth spot inside the seam... there is no movement because everything is...

    Bullet spin rise?

no... i have no rise ball in slow pitch... but i do have a big curve that adheres to the explanation i gave... the yaw is to the right so the ball moves to the left... anything beyond that i have very little experience with... however, i do start my warm ups with a windmill motion and i know i...

    Bullet spin rise?

keep in mind that i'm not positive about any of this in fast pitch but i'm certain that it works for me in slow pitch... it really would be nice if some of you would make bullseye balls so you can see what's happening better... especially in slow motion... trying to see what rachel garcias balls...

    Bullet spin rise?

what physics are you referring to? are you talking about bullet spin with a yawed axis? i'm going by the video i posted in reply #6... according to that, the ball moves away from the direction of the yaw... so having the axis below the line of flight would induce the magnus force to push the...

    Bullet spin rise?

i suggest making a bullseye ball and using it to see what the seams are actually doing... you can see immediately what's happening and once you figure it all out it will help to refine the pitches... the yawed bullet spin will produce the magnus force away from the yaw...

    Bullet spin rise?

now that i reread what corlay said, i see he is merely pointing out the difference between the large smooth spot and the narrow part between the seems... not exactly what i was talking about ... however, what i said may still apply... you may not want a perfect bullseye in fastpitch... but...
