    GoPro Etiquette

I do that, too. They still want the stuff clipped out. I spoiled them doing highlights that I'll post on the team's facebook page sometimes.

Not Allowed to Video my Team???

Here's the TSSAA rule in Tennesse for high school: I record all our high school games, and put them on a private youtube playlist that parents and coaches can see. I'm probably not in my "seat" when the camera's attached to the fence, but it's pretty close. The whole "tripod" thing seems...

    USA Elite Select Futures evals

In what seems similar to this USA Elite Select program, anybody familiar with Under Armour's Softball Factory Tryouts/Evaluations? There's one here at the end of the month at a local college.

    Batter-Runner Interference (video)?

The ball is literally spinning there on a curving trajectory inside the baseline as it trends out before stopping. It follows the catchers head. She's also avoiding running over the ball as well as the fielders. Also, back to the USSSA rules (don't apply here, but I assume something similar)...

    Batter-Runner Interference (video)?

She avoided the first baseman, who was also making a play for the ball and only peels off as the BR nears and the catcher comes in from behind. Note the first baseman is inside the line and I assume the 3 foot base path as well, forcing the BR to stay inside.

    Batter-Runner Interference (video)?

    It definitely hit her.

    Batter-Runner Interference (video)?

To me, it seemed like the defense could have still easily gotten the out if the second baseman had called for an inside throw and gotten it (or maybe even an outside throw). My kid's a catcher, and they've worked with their teammates on some teams about whoever is on first calling where the...

    Batter-Runner Interference (video)?

But where should she have gone? And again, see the exception about avoiding the fielder. I also saw a college game last year where the right handed batter literally was at the edge of the pitching circle and was called safe, because the reason she was there was to avoid the fielders. I didn't...

    Batter-Runner Interference (video)?

This looks like the appropriate rules in the USSSA rule book, but I'm not an umpire: In section 17, the Exception seems to apply. That's an "OR" there, so only one of those things would seem to be required to get the exception?

    Batter-Runner Interference (video)?

This happened in a high school game tonight. Runner was originally called safe, then the call was reversed. Video speaks for itself (camera had previously been knocked sideways by a wild pitch, sorry for the net in frame): NFHS rules. Couldn't find a copy of the rule book online without...

    Best remedy for "catchers thumb"?

Same, but eventually, I believe she learned to better catch the ball more in the pocket and no longer has issues or wears the thumb guard.

Remember Friday Loves Your Check in 9/2/16

Big charity tourney in Middle TN this weekend called "Play 4 Tay" supporting families with kids that have cancer. It's a pretty big deal around here. Nice to raise money for a good thing. Think this thing is now spread over 6 or 7 ballparks or something crazy like that.

Wilson Shock FX with some color

I ended up having to take a Scarlett one, but I've thought of trying Plasti-Dip-ing it black if we need to get away from the red at some point. Wonder how that would hold up, while always still giving the option to peel it off and get back to the base color. EDIT: Nice job, btw.

    Which glove to buy?

Neither Dick's nor Academy around here (two big chains in the area) have much at all of quality in fastpitch equipment this year. Both seem like they're stocking less stuff than they did even last year.

bunted ball hits home plate fair or foul

Exactly. I can't see how anybody would think those aren't fair.

bunted ball hits home plate fair or foul

Wouldn't it be just like a line drive hitting third base being fair? All bases are in play? (*except maybe a safety bag on first's outside bag? Assume that's foul, but have personally never thought about it.)

    Should I say anything?

Sounds like it worked out, though. Hopefully for all involved. Glad to hear.

    Tryout notice translator

I think more than a GM, teams need a communications coordinator. We had a coach constantly texting out who he'd offered slots to to all the parents who'd had kids try out. When pretty much none of them accepted, how would that look to the ones who were left who might get offers next? Hey, we're...

    Tryout notice translator

Saw this one that lasted on a softball facebook group less than a day before it was pulled: Due to unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances, TEAM 0X is needing a starting pitcher, catcher, SS, and 3B... Makes the mind race as to what happened. Team split? Assistant coach revolt? Parent revolt...

    Should I say anything?

I was thinking similar. My kid only really started playing fastpitch at 11, and was a immediately a catcher (had played slow pitch and coach pitch). It was rec, and pitching was kind of all over the place as well. It was a bit painful to watch the passed balls and bad throws to the pitcher. It...
