    Plica Syndrome

I am just curious if others have had experience with Plica Syndrome in the knee. My DD is currently dealing with it and her team has very good trainers and they are treating it. It is starting to respond but is still nagging so her innings are being controlled to start the season. Curious if...

    Rugby Career Over

I received the text I have been hoping to get for the past couple of weeks. DD: "Dad I have officially retired from rugby." Me: Trying to contain my excitement..."Why?" DD: "The coaches said last night: Those of you with good mechanics and form might get hurt, those of you who don't WILL get...

    DD wants to play IF

Maybe she could play incredibly shallow in the outfield so as to get the same feeling as playing the infield. If anybody asks she just says she saw a documentary on Jim Edmonds. I'm an ideas guy, what can I say? Andy

    Anxiety and excitement....mine, not hers

So true! Except with my daughter we get one of four responses. 1) "Eh" = things not going well 2) "Eh, fine" = going ok; just got this one this morning 3) "Fine" = actually going pretty well 4) "Good!" = things are going about as well as possible And seriously these are universal and...

I did say it backwards! I fixed it in the original post and thank you for calling it out so I could fix it.

One of the reaons I love softball..

While this TED talk is not softball related it talks about how we can raise girls to value bravery over perfection. I believe softball or any team sport can teach bravery and the fact life is imperfect. Twelve minutes but worth watching imo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC9da6eqaqg

Bad timing for a bad injury

TMD, sorry to hear about your DD's injury but glad she is cleared to play. My knucklehead is studying in Ireland for a semester and is talking about joining Trinity's rugby team. :) Andy

    Softball Coach

In my experience it will cycle between "wow this kid can really pitch!!" and then "oh crap, why is this kid even allowed to pitch??" and then back to wow and then back to oh crap cycling back and forth about 5-10 times....and that was just her sophomore year in college. :) Good luck! Andy

    Pitching Yips. OMG

You are spot on about the mental side of pitching. There were times when my DD had to deal with various mental issues and one thing we would do is sub for a team playing against competition that she knew she could dominate. I know it is probably not fair to those she faced but by doing that it...

    Pitcher/catcher

Just bouncing around the site this morning and saw your other post about the new stud catcher. Is that with the current team? If so why not work with her and build the chemistry? Just curious. Andy

    New girl/jealousy

My DD pitches and back when she played travel if a new catcher joined the team she would ask if she wanted to catch her pitching lessons and practice. This is not to the exclusion of any other catchers but invite her specifically to come. And then go get something to eat together. Invite the...

18u showcase vs 18u whatever else

Again I think you may be getting hung up on "showcase" but lets say you mean a team that can at least compete with top-level national competition and attends those kinds of tournaments. For my DD that was worth it not just from a recruiting perspective but even more important gave her a sense...

PC recommendations - Southern IL/Stl area

My DD loved Russell Cooper and he was very good. Highly recommend.

    There are two softball seasons...

CB, I'm sorry to hear you are retiring but well-deserved and congrats! Doing well here on this side of the river. Kiddo is working hard to get ready for her junior year but studying abroad for a semester at Trinity College in Dublin in the fall so we will see what next spring brings! :) Andy...

    Scoreboard not working

Next time just say must be scoreboard operator error and hang up. Andy

    Having the worst HS season!

I could not agree more. Whether the OP's DD perfectly interpreted the coach or not as is being discussed in other posts seem beside the point. If she volunteered or got "volunteered" to catch this year, the only clear feeling she should be left with from the coaches is gratitude. And maybe a...
