One thing not mentioned is teaching the pitcher to look for strengths and weakness and the catcher to communicate how the pitches are doing. If the pitcher is smart and the catcher is in tune, coaches from the bench aren't needed.
I disagree. Get the glove right and it is easier to get the rest of it going right. I guess it's a chicken and egg thing, but getting the glove in line requires little skill and just plain concentration, so that in a short time it is muscle memory. Then you can work on the pitching side more...
I didn't say she wasn't in the top 10 I just said she is 55th on the ERA leaders. I also said that I would pick at least 5 who were better than her. She is good, no question. She had a good run 3 years ago and is sitting home right now.
I didn't say she wasn't good. She has a 1.95 ERA. Pretty good. That puts her in 55th place for all D1 pitchers. Now granted some play in lesser conferences and their ERA's are better because of that. But many are from top flight conferences. I am not beating her up it's just that she is really...
She is really semi closed. Her left shoulder is actually turned somewhere in the direction of the first base dugout and not at first base which would be totally closed. She pitches somewhat in that direction and lets the ball go a little earlier because of it. This allows her to not get injured...
If anyone thinks a coach can teach players to lay off of a riseball or high pitch they are giving them too much credit. Even the great Mike Candrea, who by the way isn't as great as he used to be. When you get above 65 mph and have a quirky motion like Escobedo you will have players not familiar...
Oh so she was a thrower, therefore I was right at one point. But her stats are not as good as her freshman year. So when she became a pitcher things weren't as good. I watched her pitch several times this year and she is still a thrower. A thrower can win and a thrower can strike people out. It...
There are rules against unsportsmanlike conduct. I know you are trying to come across as knowing all things but you are wrong. I have had umpires make me tell fans to stop saying things at the college level. You need to get around a little bit before you opine on something.
I'd tell the umpire it is unsportsmanlike conduct and my team was not going to continue to play if this went on and if he didn't correct it I'd want to see the UIC.
They lay off it because it surprises them not because they distinguish it from other pitches and choose not to swing. That is giving them way too much credit. Unless the pitcher gives it away or they have picked her, it's virtually impossible.
The key to the best change ups, based on my observation and discussion with some of the best that ever threw a ball, is to have the ball released way out in front of you with a bit of a shoulder roll. This takes the snap out of the elbow and naturally slows the ball down.
Sad story. How about the kid that broke her leg? I had one of my players break an arm. I have seen torn ACL's on the field. This is a feel sorry for me story. Not worth reading.
