The days seem more frequent 5-6 including games. but the number of pitches during practice is lower than I expected. 50-60 max during bullpen. Starters never go live. I almost feel it would be more beneficial to throw less days but more pitches each day.
I'm sure it is that way in some case. I can only go by what I've seen in 20 years of doing this. Specializing in freshman year is what I've seen that has worked best. Just my opinion.
Multi-sport athlete is a tired old term that needs to be retired. Take any high level softball player today and even if they don't play another sport with a scoreboard they are running, lifting, and doing many other conditioning activities that combine multiple sports.

When DD went to Maddie Penta's mother for lessons she would catch her. I offered many times and she declined. Said she needed to see the spin and feel the velocity.
DD started to land to the left this season. With that came an increase in speed. She was throwing 64-65 in a game last weekend but her curve was flat and running on the plate. Her "screw" was the best its been but she struggled to control her change up. I told her to look at the video and...
95% practice. Playing time in games is overrated by most parents. I can only go by my experience as a parent of 12 years in this sport and a coach for about 6. Parents love games... kids do too. But the real gains are made far away from competition. Games reveal the work done in practice. But...
I'd love to share my DD's story but to keep it short when she was 12 years old they never let her pitch. Would tell her "we'll get ya in soon" Soon never happened. That dismissiveness built a fire in her that could never be extinguished.
Tonight her team sits at 15-1 and takes on the #1...
All depends on if your DD is getting better every day. I've seen so many teams where playing time is spread out evenly but kids don't get better. And other teams where some kids never play but get so much better because in spite of everything you hear and come to believe kids don't get better...
Seeing some traditionally strong teams struggle (Cajuns, UCLA, and some others). Pitching has really become watered down. Very few teams have strong pitchers 1 through 4. Could make for an interesting season and tournament.
