summer ball for 20 year old player

Can somebody provide information on teams or playing opportunities for my 20 year old daughter. She recently finished her freshman year of college at a small junior college. She is a catcher with great skills that can spray the ball all around the field. She really wants to play this summer...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

What makes the rule in Alabama so egregious is that it totally eliminates a players ability to take part in any softball activity, anywhere that involves more then a single player with a single instructor. I am told that two girls from our area, not our school, were in Florida during spring...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

The problem for me isn't as much that we can't play games it's that we can't even practice. Only one-on-one training is a possibility. It is hard to keep the skills sharp for 4 months with the poor quality of practice and training my daughter is getting with her high school.

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

HA is a private school but they are still part of the AHSAA. Several private schools are part of AHSAA. They are classified differently than public school because they are not limited to a geographical area for students. Each student in 10th - 12th counts is multiplied by 1.5 to decided which...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

I have enjoyed the experience of posting and receiving the variety of responses. I learned long ago that the answer I have may be the wrong answer so why not ask for others opinion. I agree that college coaches are not able to do much if any recruiting during their season. They are not able...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

You are correct this would be a step down as far as high school competition is concerned but the coaching would be better and my daughter would be able to enjoy all those ancillary things that comes from playing for her high school. This is just an option but not one we would prefer.

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

I appreciate your input. As you can tell this is something that is really bothering me. My wife has told me to leave it alone and that she is tired of hearing about it, lol. I have never posted anything on the internet before this posting. I guess this is therapy for me. I needed to...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

this would be a transfer to a private school that does not play in the AHSAA system. We are not allowed to transfer between AHSAA schools unless we make a legitimate move of residence.

WOW, I never expected this post to generate this much interest. I really appreciate those of you that have provided information on the rules in your state. It is apparent to me from reading all the replies that the experience a "family" has with either a high school team or travel ball team...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

As I am sure you are aware Alabama Independent School Association is a separate entity from the AHSAA with it's own rules. We are considering transferring to a local AISA school for next seaon.

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

We just started with the high school program this year and were blind sided by this rule after the start of the season. I have never allowed any of children to quite anything once they have started it. We will finish the season and consider this an educational experience. However I will admit...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

I assure you this rule applies to all sports. I recently spoke to an official with the AHSAA who told me this rule was put in place recently to prevent coaches from getting extra practice and game experience for their players by having them play travel ball. the welfare of the player was not...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

In Alabama there is a limit of 24 regular season games and 5 weekend tournaments, of course this doesn't include any post season playoff tournaments that are all controlled by the Alabama High School Athletic Association. We usually play a maximum of three games a week and most weeks we only...

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

I was presented with a copy of the rule I posted in my original message by the high school principle. When I asked why this had become an issue this season he made a comment that really rubbed me the wrong way. His explanation for the rule was that the Alabama High School Athletic Association...

Alabama has separate rule that limits the number of players from a high school teams on a single TB team to no more than 5.

Alabama high school softball "outside participation rule"

For those of you who live outside the state of Alabama and have the freedom for your children to play travel, club, recreational, or church softball at any time you want them to then be assured that those of us that are held hostage by the Alabama High School Athletic Association are envious of...
