    Pitching stats per level

Out of all these responses - for a pitcher her age - here's what stands out to me. And I'll add two at the end.... 1. Pursue mound time on the best team possible. Mound time is more important than the team right now, but team quality does matter. 2. Provide some game video to her pitching...

    Varsity Awards

Not a big fan of players voting for awards. Too much risk for popularity votes. I'll take the heat for choices parents don't like. We do: MVP, Best Offensive, Best Defensive, and Most Improved. We can add a "Coaches Award" if we think someone merits it. Play a minimum amount and you get a...

    Pitching velo

Mechanics are (almost) everything. My DD was a HS senior before she hit 60, cruised around 57-58. Now has just finished her senior year at a D3. This year she hit 65. Cruises around 60-62. She still has 2 years from covid if she wants them. Don't know if she'll get measurably faster; she's 5'4"...

Sounds awesome. Similarities are growing! I'm John. DD has a 4.0 for first two years. She's almost finished a bachelor's in math from Meredith, and will finish in three more years with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from NC State. So much easier to raise than the two boys!

We're birds of a feather, it seems. I've told Hannah that whenever she's done, I'll cry a little and then we'll get on with it. She's planning to take the extra year due to covid since she's in a 5 year study program. But whenever it ends, I know it will be tough.

Is she still playing? Every now and then I get to catch DD during the summer. Apparently she's "too big" for the help when teammates are around during the school year.

    Best softball story

Pitcher's parents are the worst. Naturally, I'm an exception.

I know it well. I lived near Cherryville a few years, and Gastonia or HIckory were our destinations for culture! DD has two years of college under her belt now, but cut her travel ball teeth in Top Gun tournaments around Charlotte before finally stepping up to better teams. I'm so grateful for...

    Best softball story

So many memories (and still adding). My favorite team might be a 12u rec team in a YMCA league. 7 of 11 girls had never played before, and they worked so hard and had so much fun. One of these young ladies wanted to be the catcher, but she couldn't even throw the ball back to the pitcher. She...

May I ask where you are in NC? I"m currently in the Triad area, but DD spent much of her early softball years near Charlotte.

    Fury Platinum

Consider DD's age and goals in this, too. If she intends to play in college and will be going to college camps, the organization name on the jersey will matter far more than if she plays for a better team with a local name. Not fair, perhaps, but often true. We joined up with a big, nationally...

DD Getting frozen out of High School ball. Any options during that time

Perhaps let your DD guide the situation. What are her desires and concerns about playing? Even if she rides the bench most of the year, she might value the time with friends on the team, or at least representing her school, traveling to away games. Sometimes such difficult experiences build...

    Daddy Ball

If all other things are equal, I would agree. DD's current PC (and college HC) was a D1 All-American, and she's since studying pitching like a science. She's awesome. She cares about her players and communicates well. Just saying that having "Player" on a resume doesn't make someone a good...

    Have you ever been out?

Almost, in a middle school game. We were home, tied in the bottom of the 7th. I sent a girl up as a re-enter to pitch hit. We had runners on first and second with 1 out. Ump would not allow her to bat. Said there was no rule allowing any player to re-enter the game. I argued as much as I could...

    Daddy Ball

Some of the worst pitching coaches I've seen are well-meaning young women who pitched in college. I will agree that playing at a high level CAN give a former player some advantages as a coach that a non-player (like me) won't experience. But someone who has a passion for the game, a passion to...

When you quit your team mid-season

We finished a fall season once, then switched in spring. It was a decision to stay through fall to honor her commitment. The coach was pleasant enough. DD got lots of time at short, but went there as one of three pitchers. Yet she pitched an average of only 1 inning per tournament (Yes, I...

Why you put a cage on your batting helmet

One of our high school girls hit a ball like this recently. It hit the bill of her helmet and knocked the helmet off, but never touched her. Everyone laughed about it, but it wasn't far from being very scary!

    Help a player who rushes.

As as been stated, experience will help a lot. In practice, lots of reps. Lots and lots of reps, always focusing on techniques, on making the mechanical sequence of techniques more and more fluid and consistent. You might even consider speeding up expectations of how fast she can get the ball to...
