No Softball in Illinois this Summer?

Just thought I’d share as I’ve been on both sides of this. Back when I was in college I worked for a car parking company that did valet as well as parking at large events. I traveled with them across the country to work the U.S. Open golf tourney, the Women’s and Senior Opens, the U.S. Amateur...

10 Items That Should Always Be In Your Coach’s Bag

When I coached I also brought a cleat cleaner for the muddier field days - or in a pinch, popsicle sticks or wooden tongue depressors. The latter also work for splinting broken fingers.

    Flex Player

That would be a decent strategy if a short game; however, if it’s a 7 inning game with the chance of 3-4 at bats if she’s a strong hitter, I want her staying in the lineup. Especially if it has the potential to be a close game.

    Flex Player

But only if the DP comes out, correct? Ok, I’m getting it - so more as a sub in the DP’s spot. I misread flash’s response. For some reason I thought he meant the DP would stay in her spot and would just have the Flex run when she got on base without replacing the DP. Sorry!

    Flex Player

Can the flex run for the DP though? I thought the DP and Flex couldn’t be on offense at the same time?

    Flex Player

I would think if the fast runner was an OF and was a great defensive player it would only make sense to pair that player as a flex to the DP who is a strong hitter/slow runner. My only thing is that DP needs to be significantly better as a hitter than the flex or else they potentially become a...

Season canceled - no refund offered

It was Amalfe Bros. Tires, Papa’s Exxon, Malin’s Five and Dime, GG Woody Funeral Home, and Roselle Savings Bank for me. Yep - those were our girl’s softball sponsors. 😂

Play catch vs. Have a Catch

    Absolutely!

Play catch vs. Have a Catch

Nope. Crowns! It’s a Hudson County accent that was passed down by my parents.

Can I get a travel ball history lesson?

IME, most kids who stuck with rec who obviously could play on a TB team stayed In LL because they wanted to play with their friends, typically kids who they went to school with. Once we left LL after 12U and played TB, there was no way dd could have balanced both. Too many practices and games...

Can I get a travel ball history lesson?

I get what you are saying, but if they play rec too and don’t miss rec practices or games it shouldn’t be an issue. I would think in most cases most travel players would miss most of rec season if their season started in spring, making them ineligible for all-stars. IME, the girls who played...

Can I get a travel ball history lesson?

Yeah, I remember catching some flack when dd played travel during the fall of her 12U year. My friend was one of the coaches and invited her to guest play that season. For some reason people assumed that if rec players played TB then they were not allowed to play on the all-star team (no such...

Can I get a travel ball history lesson?

If they and your dd played the minimum amount of rec games required to be able to qualify for the all-star team, then there shouldn’t have been an issue, and that parent was wrong for saying anything.

Play catch vs. Have a Catch

Born and raised in North Jersey - I’d go “play catch” with my dad and “go down the shore” for the summer. I also eat Taylor ham, put my clothes in “draws” not drawers, and color with “crowns” not crayons. I could also tell you where every single place is that Tony Soprano drives past in the...

    Screwball examples?

I believe Stacy Nelson from Florida was a big time screwball pitcher. I just remember how much she used to lean though.

Can I get a travel ball history lesson?

. Yeah, this is a big part of it, as well.

Can I get a travel ball history lesson?

I’ll bite and try to answer some of your questions. I, personally, never even knew travel softball existed until high school. I was asked to join a team but unfortunately my parents liked their weekends at the shore too much, so I wasn’t allowed to play. This was the early 90’s. It was only an...

Recruitment questions. When to tell coaches you are committed?

It’s where you submit transcripts and test scores to the coach and she/he will send to admissions. Some admissions offices will send the coach a letter that indicates if the player is likely to get admitted or not based on the current info they received. A lot of the high academic programs do...

Recruitment questions. When to tell coaches you are committed?

Will your DD’s choice school do an academic pre-read over the summer so you will get an idea if she will be accepted? That’s where we are at right now with my dd. Her schools can’t do it without an SAT/ACT score and we are hoping that the June ACT still happens. She has a good ACT score but...

No Softball in Illinois this Summer?

I really try not to jump into these conversations because people never seem to want to believe me anyway. They must think I make this shi* up or have some sort of agenda because they, personally, haven’t experienced it either themselves or secondhand through people they know who are healthcare...
