This new training tool reflects a whole hitting philosophy...is it right?

I'm contending my last post agreeing with you was correct. Best wishes :)

Yes, you are absolutely right. Handpath radius can vary. If it stays the same during rotation you are fine. If the radius goes from small to large you are toast. If it goes from large to small during rotation you may get to hit an inside pitch very very hard.

Perhaps we posted at the same time and you didn't see reply 43 before you posted. It really is just physics and it's not arguable assuming you understand the physics involved at just a basic level. Research angular momentum and the double pendulum. Best wishes.

    Good or Bad

Risk/reward. Go run track, play basketball, volleyball or "gasp" soccer. I'd skip the javelin unless I thought I could be better in javelin than softball.

Tightening the hand path/getting inside the ball whatever the terminology, is shown frequently on Siggys hitting site. You do have to pull the hands across the chest with scapular action and perhaps even lead elbow flexion to adjust to the inside pitch. Question is when. Do it like the link of...

This new training tool reflects a whole hitting philosophy...is it right?

Don't know what that means but whatever mental cue/swing goal works for your hitters then great. I'm discussing the technical aspects of the swing rather than how to coach it. That's another discussion.

This new training tool reflects a whole hitting philosophy...is it right?

Certainly could be an example but I don't mean it to be the lead arm disconnecting from the chest. I mean an efficient transfer of energy from the rotating torso is good connection/connecting the rotating energy of the torso to the bat with as little misdirected energy as possible. My apologies...

I should add good connection doesn't mandate a particular proximity of the lead arm to the chest as proven by various elite hitters.

Perhaps the linked video can help you on the meaning of push disconnect . By "forward" I mean toward the pitcher. "Leave them behind" seems clear but if my torso starts rotating and elbow extension or some such during the first part of upper torso rotation means the hands don't start moving till...

8 yo that just move to the left

Perfect. On the swing plane question, yeah they have a point. Check one through eight. Analysis Swing plane should be parallel and close to or on the shoulder rotation plane. For a little fun, here's a good swing plane on an up and in pitch. Go to this link...

At what age is too early to attend a College Showcase Camp?

Some good advice in this thread. I'd suggest buying Cathi Aradi's book Book Information Not much money for good advice and a full list of contact information for college coaches. In any case, if you are going to send her, she should email a selection of coaches who will be in attendance giving...

This new training tool reflects a whole hitting philosophy...is it right?

Not my word but yes my usage. Connection, in my usage, means connecting the energy of the rotating torso to the bat without loss. If I push my hands forward, leave them behind, push them down below the swing plane during rotation etc I have introduced an inefficiency and part of the energy of...

    Good or Bad

I'd be a little nervous about javelin in terms of injury to a throwing athlete but otherwise I think multiple sports are a good thing.

8 yo that just move to the left

He will obviously have to answer the goal question but I'd take the chance to affirm their decision. If you are talking about a kid who will be able to run, (a little or a lot) being able to drive the ball AND play a left side short game makes you a very prized commodity.

8 yo that just move to the left

Good start. Swing plane is tilted forward. Needs to be parallel to the shoulder rotation plane. Here's some reference guides. Analysis College coaches love a versatile left sider. Only caution is to go over there and stay over there. Don't switch back and forth. Always remember, what the sport...

    Power V

Found out just now I am wrong about O'Leary not giving credit. Apparently in a dvd of his he mentioned Englishbey so good for him and my apologies.

    Hitting...it's as easy as 1,2,3,4,5

Kids learn by mimicry whether it's language or athletics. Give them good models to mimic and help them see where they could improve whether that's swinging in front of a mirror or video. Demonstration works better than words for young ones ime.

    should I be offended?

I've seen D1 schools warm up with baseballs just to keep their arm action loose and whippy so yeah, good for girls to start with baseballs

    should I be offended?

Agree with DJ. I agree with something I once read. League teams should be picked to be even. Then draw numbers out of a hat to see which coach gets which team. Negotiate a reasonable player swap to get the coach's kid on his team if that doesn't happen in the draw. This way, everyone will be...

    should I be offended?

Welcome to league ball. It's not about what's right. It's not about you. It's about what's best for your kid. Instead of fighting the politics, figure out how to maximize the experience for your kid or find another place to play. Sometimes/often time spent on making a dozen kids better means you...
