    I remember respecting Jessica Mendoza

Cheating seems to be commonplace in some pro sports, and no on in mgmt cares as long as it helps to sell tickets and merchandise. If you watch an NFL playoff game and don't recognize they use the Refs to influence the outcome, you aren't paying attention. They even change the rules at the end...

Ten most important things for an infielder to do

Things College Softball Announcers Can Quit Saying

This was a thought I had watching a game the other day...does EVERYONE really throw 70??

Yes...and the same message..."who's your pitching coach?"

Somehow I stumbled onto Discuss Whiffle Ball

    Covering 2nd on a steal

I would take a look at her normal positioning and if it is even possible for her to get there on time or not. My experience has been...often SS is too deep to get there in time. But, If she is way up close to the baseline between 2nd and 3rd...they can get there but often end up in no-man's...

    POP and throw?

Seems like a lot of college catchers are popping and throwing rather than planting their throwing side foot and striding towards their target. I guess I could see an argument that popping would get both feet on the ground quicker...but seems to me that planting quickly and striding towards the...

    Help me help her

I feel like she is late in most of these swings...just a touch. Even the ball she hit well, swing looks good but probably want to hit that pitch about 6 inches more out front. In the longer video...2nd pitch is right on the inside corner...she takes but doesn't start her swing with her lower...

Batting Order for a weak hitting team with weird rules (10U

Put the girls that you think will still be playing in a couple of years in a position where they will get some decent at bats. Don't let them think about taking pitches...be aggressive and go after any good pitches they see.

    Help me help her

I'm interested to see your videos...I'm thinking maybe the pitching is a little better than you think. May not look different but maybe a little more nuance to it...spin, spots... In the stats...the thing I noticed in the before vs after...3-4 times as many strikeouts.

    How about this call?

I imagine there is a rule about intentional destruction of the field of play or something...I'm sure an ump could toss a player for rubbing out the batters box...I wouldn't fight it. That's a slippery slope. The boxes in the video are clearly a foot short in the front if not more (baseball...

    Barrel-Forearm Alignment

In my head...if the bat lags behind as it should, it doesn't catch up to that alignment with the lead forearm until contact...accelerating just at the right time. If the hands start to early, and there is no lag..the bat seems to be aligned with the forearm too early and doesn't have that same...

please evaluate looking to step up her game

some good building blocks there! Looks like she locks out her elbow at 12 o'clock and pushes the ball the rest of the way. As said previously...from 12 o'clock on...a little bend in the elbow and pulling the ball down will help

    Slotting the elbow

I think her swing is very good and has serious potential. I would suggest you work on sequencing...I see the hips, shoulders and hands all going at the same time. I think her hands start too early. I can see what looks like her elbow pinning to the side for a moment then pushing through...

    Help Coaching Pick Off

You got a variety of opinions back on what to do. Seems to me, instead of pickoffs...focus on keeping the runners at first...and off balance. There are no absolutes...throw the ball back quickly and firmly to the pitcher regularly, but let the runner know you are watching...a pump fake or...

Pitching mechanics and what to work on

Looks pretty good IMO. Hard to tell from the back, but looks like she lets her upper body get too far forward...not resisting enough on the front side. Like you commented...I think the plant foot a little more angled towards home might help her resist the forward movement better...that...

    12 year old DD critique

My only question after seeing the video is...does she work on driving both arms in towards her side prior to release? Her glove arm looks comfortable. Maybe driving both arms in towards her core together would create a little more energy?

    Situational Hitting - mental cues?

thanks for the responses so far...I should say...I have never really taught or pushed situational hitting like the video (obviously I guess)...it just got me thinking and more than anything...I was looking to pick brains for conversation. So...I appreciate all of the dialog. Coach JD...the...

    Situational Hitting - mental cues?

Was looking through this Kent St video from a few years ago about indoor practice stuff. There is a section of front toss I found very interesting. The coach is calling out a situation and immediately pitching. "runner on first, no outs"... "2nd and 3rd, less than 2 outs" Expecting the...
