Trying to convince the player/parent change is good.

Before you try and change anyone's swing you should get a better understanding of the physics of hitting and pitching. No pitch rises in baseball or softball. Period. Not even the rise-ball. Gravity wins every time. Make sure you really understand this. Once you have established the above...

Coach attemtping steals in the last inning when the team is losing....

Which do you not understand, coaching or the math? Or both?

Coach attemtping steals in the last inning when the team is losing....

Runner on 1B with two outs stealing is a different scenario from a runner on 2B with two outs stealing. The OP mentioned at least 4 different scenarios. FYI: From a Run Expectancy probability stealing in any scenario is bad math (and yet teams still do it, and for a good reason!). The...

Coach attemtping steals in the last inning when the team is losing....

As a coach I love how every parent plays the result (and thinks they could do a better job calling the game). Some of your thoughts above go against what analytics suggests.

    LL World Series outfield play

They relays were terrible from what I saw. Throwing when and where you shouldn't was a common theme. It was odd even for their age.

    Wristband sign chart

And did that knowledge affect the outcome of the game? One thought is that the other team didn't care that you knew the change-up numbers (I know we don't).

    Too Many Teams

You can only have as many teams as you have quality pitchers (and to some extent catchers). There simply aren't enough quality pitchers for the amount of (position) players that want to play travel.

    How important are stats?

Why would you use MLB data when there is fastpitch data readily available? What kind of straw man nonsense is is that?
  9. GunnerShotgun

    How important are stats?

I have seen this mentioned a couple of times and it's confirmation bias.
  10. GunnerShotgun

    How important are stats?

ERA is a horrible stat to use when evaluation pitchers so why even use it? ERA, RBI, runs, wins, etc. are all crap statistics that you shouldn't be using for experience analysis and projections. You say well those stats are deceiving and the rest of us are saying yeah nobody uses those. It's...

    How important are stats?

Run don't walk away from any coach that uses the eyeball test or gut feeling for their decision making and coaching. Every professional team now has an analytics department feeding management data to help with making decisions. Any coach that counters with "stats lie" is a dinosaur. Simply...

look back rule on ball 4

My point, and please go back and reread Westind's post (#40) again is that there are some teams at the highest level that are making a mockery of the LBR to an extreme level. I understand that at the local and high school level you can defend the first and third play to an extent but when you...
  13. GunnerShotgun

look back rule on ball 4

This is not true. In reality an offensive team could muck about on the bases "forever" in a first and third situation, LBR be damned.
  14. GunnerShotgun

look back rule on ball 4

This is exactly right. Once the LBR is in effect and you "decide" which base the rule doesn't say how fast you must go (to that base).
  15. GunnerShotgun

look back rule on ball 4

But it doesn't say how fast you to go bck (or go home). This is how you exploit the rule...
  16. GunnerShotgun

After a walk continuing to second with ball in circle

An easy way to remember is that a walk is the same as a hit as far as the LBR is concerned.
  17. GunnerShotgun

    Parents

No. Be friendly to them but don't be friends with them during the softball season. Parents are emotional creatures when their daughters are involved. You applying reason and logic to their emotions is never going to work (unless you win the majority of the games are are national champions)...

Delaying play to run clock time off

The point was that you can pick the tournaments that do a better job with clocks (more PGF and Showcases in my area). Tournament directors think in "number of games" and there are only so many hours in a day. I would rather play fewer games with a longer clock than the other way around...

    Mercy Rule at a Showcase?

Who is keeping score in a showcase?
  20. GunnerShotgun

Delaying play to run clock time off

So what you can do is vote with your dollars and play in events that do not use a clock (PGF is better than most about this). Mention to tournament directors why you are (or are not) playing in their events. From my region ASA is the worst with clocks and PGF is the best (no time limit in...
