Since I caught with a Fielder's glove my entire career, which basically has zero padding other than two layers of leather, and had an awesome big pocket,
caught pitchers who broke 70 mph.
Rad, did they not have catcher's mitts for softball when you played? I can't imagine trying that now. I get that catching the ball in the pocket is the best thing to protect your hand, but I can't be perfect at my age anymore. I need all the protection I can get.

Knowing what I know of Rad from this board I believe she would have been fine catching the ball barehanded! Probably hurt the ball more than her hand.

Here’s what I do know…..Vinci FP mitts by far, hands down have the best palm protection, their palm padding is ridiculous!

One Vinci issue some Bucket Dads might have is in the breaking in process. I'm helping one of my catchers break hers in, but the finger wells are so stiff (and while I don't have giant hands, they are normal adult-sized), I can only wear it for a short time before it starts to hurt my fingers.

Broken in Vincis are all good, but getting to that point could be a bit painful for Bucket Dads with larger hands. Might be better to try to find a used one.

I'm definitely more of a All-Star fan, it's what I used to bucket catch Anna for 5 years. I did have a perfectly broken in Vinci JCV-22 that I gifted to a Dad here, you're right Coach JD, makes a huge difference! In some cases it's easy to argue that a perfectly broken in, usable Vinci mitt is worth more money than a brand new one.....as odd as that may sound!

Why would you use a regular fielder's glove then?
Because it works really well for me. WOOHOO🥳
👍.997 fielding avg. behind the plate.
Defensive player with the added pleasure of framing. Including Fielding dirt pitches and caught with it in the Women's College World Series and made WCWS 1st team selection.
One of my favorite compliments I received from a teammate in college who said 'Can throw the ball anywhere to Turbo and she'll catch it.'
Thankyou Jose Corone!
Outfielder power hitter. Who throws the ball so hard one time a hard hit laser grounder hit to her down right field line,
she came up with ball to throw the runner out at 1st, ball arrived just as the runner crossed first base. The throw hit the runner in the thigh and knocked her over. First base couldn't grab the throw because the runner was in between it.

Story added for some pizzazz 🙂🥳👍

I wasn't questioning your ability. I've just never seen that at high-level softball or baseball.

🙂Didn't think you were questioning my ability but you asked why I used it. I used it because it WORKS RAD for me! Then added the level I was able to use it at! And look at that you've never seen it at that high level of softball...badda bing!
Interesting to add while playing Never not once was questioned about using that instead of a catcher's mitt.

What size glove did you use? Trying to think of whether a big OF glove or a smaller IF glove would be best for a catcher.
