What app are you all using for walkup songs? Also player announcements? We started a new team, and out of the loop on this one.

At first, I thought it was for HS but then I reread it. It's a new team. To the OP. No one does player announcements that only happens in HS and college. Maybe that's why there haven't been any comments. Walk up songs stopped in 10U, perhaps a few did it in 12U. If anything, music is played during warm ups and/or in between innings. It's super annoying for the most part...except for warm up music that the girls play for themselves with their own speaker.

Here in Florida walk up songs are used for all ages still.

We hadn’t done it before, but for our last tournament as 16u, the team wanted to do it, so we did. I wasn’t involved in the process, so not sure of the app, but i’ll check.

Biggest “tips” i can give you is to practice with it before the first game. We have played teams where the timing was all off and music didn’t even start until pitcher was about to pitch. Keep it short, and kill it before pitcher is ready to go. Also, there is no need to blast the volume so everyone in the complex can hear. Nobody outside of your dugout and parents cares, especially the people that aren’t even on the same field.

Hate it! A few teams use it but I hate it. It’s fine in high school and college when 4-5 games aren’t going on at one time but if I’m trying to talk to my batter and your stuff is blaring in the background it’s super annoying

Coolest "version" of this I have EVER seen ...

At the Triple Crown National I did a few months ago, one 18u team did all of their own in the dugout. One of the girls would announce the batter and then the entire bench would sing the walk up song.

Very different, very personal, very engaging, and very fun!

I despise the blaring boom box walk up music and the in between inning noise, BUT the girls like it so it's a small concession to keep them happy.
Absolutely this. It really is a small concession that goes a long way in terms of enjoyment of the game and being loose/feeling good.

I wish coaches/players would get over themselves sometimes and be in tune with the small things that keeps the kids happy during long days at the softball field. I used to be one of these coaches, it was my regimented old school way but I wasn't getting the best out of them. I eventually realized that allowing them the freedom to just have a good time pays huge dividends on the field.

All that said, my rule is that I am not involved in the music, that is a parent/player responsibility if they want to do it (we are a 2nd year 12U). We alternate between walk up music and just keeping the speaker in the dugout and using it between innings (again, the players control it, not me). I think they like both. Have rules, make sure they understand, but let them have fun. They only get this experience for these few years once in their life.
