I apologize in advance but just looking for a solid answer to clear up any confusion. Our travel team consists of all 2011 players. We are just finishing our 10u summer season. When I plug birthdates into USSSA calculator for 2023 season starting 8/1/2022-7/31/2023 it shows player competition age of 11. Since there is only 10u and 12u what would we play in for this fall according to USSSA rules. Thanks in advance.

A team of all 2011's would have to register as some form of 11u (11C,11O,etc) or 12u (12A,B,C,etc) and play either 11u tournaments (if you register as some form of 11u; not sure how many there are in your area) or 12U tournaments (if you register as some form of 11u or 12u). I would suggest either registering as 11C or 11O depending on the level of your team.

SoCal
In SoCal you would be going into first year 12U. Some teams make the jump after PGF (August/Sept). Others wait until January. The advantage of waiting and continuing at 10u level throughout fall/winter is the team may be able to secure some shiny plastic during the Halloween, Thanksgiving, Toys for Tots Tourneys. We generally don't have 11u or 13u or A, B, or C. IMO, first year 12u is the toughest year. You can end up have little girls playing little women. One of the coaches' jobs is to find friendlies and tournament in which the team can compete and win some games. Nobody is happy losing all the time.

In our area - mostly USSSA and you would play 12U tournaments in the A, B, or C level. You could register as 11U, but very few 11U specific tournaments.

My understanding is that the 2023 season starts in August and that is when you would need to register at the higher age level.

Register 11u at whatever level you are. You can always play up but if you register 12u then you can’t attend an 11u tournament if you want to. The 11u usssa nationals in Iowa are a great place for 11u teams to test their stuff at the end of the year.

Your team can register 11Uopen but per USSSA rules your team is First year 12U. I would say register 11UOpen and play 12u but for some TFL stuff there are 11U events and you can play 11/10 year olds like yourself.

This is very true, first year 12U is the biggest jump. I think it’s easier to prep your team (meaning your parents) that you’re in for a rough stretch in the fall while your team adjusts than to stick around 10’s for a victory lap. You’ll be better prepared for the spring.
