Okay, so I have a few questions here. First, what are the most important stats you look at in making your line up? Second, what are some reasons a coach would take a girl with the 3rd highest avg/ 2nd highest obp on the team and make her a flex going into bracket play one weekend and then not bat her 2 out of 4 games the next weekend? Third, I thought a flex couldn't bat but then she was subbed in..how does that work?

Looking at my last line up
Speed and smarts
Speed
Power
Average
Can Bat But Can't Field
Average
Hope they get a hit
Hope they get a hit
Fastest of the Hope they get a hits

FLX: Can't hit; will field

I am guessing this is your REAL question.

The answer is 'Because'. Who knows what goes through a coaches mind. Or what factors into anything.

Third, I thought a flex couldn't bat but then she was subbed in..how does that work?
Flex can be subbed into the DP spot to bat; FLX goes away - lineup is now 9. You can they reenter the DP and you can restablish the Flex if you like.

Most forward thinking coaches are using some variation of The Book.

Understand that there isn't some magical lineup that will lead to victory. The general gist is that you want to get your best hitters the most at bats.

The batting lineup is one of the most overrated aspects in all of sports. It just doesn't matter a whole lot in terms of wins and loses.

If the FLEX goes into the lineup it's considered an offensive substitution. But I believe Flex can only hit for the DP in which case the DP is considered subbed out but could renter under starter reentry rule.

As for AVE/OBP questions is it a small sample? If so coach is probably going on something more than just the season stats but that's just a guess.

Not one of the coach's DDs? LOL
How big of a sample size on the 3rd highest average and 2nd highest obp?

Since I really don't have the sample size to spend a lot of time on something that doesn't matter a ton, I basically put the good hitters at the top and the bad hitters at the bottom. I try not to put a very slow person directly in front of a very fast person. And, most importantly I've found, I try not to put someone in a spot where they aren't comfortable.
