Conjecture: Batting gloves can slow the game down

Proof by contradiction:

We assume that batting gloves do not slow the game down. Contradiction to this statement: Nomar.

Conjecture proven.

I never knew the wristband cult was so strong. I used them when calling pitches at the HS level. They don’t slow the game down in that instance if you give the catcher the next number while the pitcher is walking back to the mound.

The issue is definitely in the execution of coaches that don’t know what they are doing. I think the easy nature of the cards is attractive to coaches who don’t know what they are doing. I think we just need a PSA to coaches that you don’t need to give a sign every pitch. Especially with no one on base!

As a coach, I didn't want to be the one holding up the game. I didn't call out numbers in obvious non-event situations. I quickly learned to have the next dummy number ready to call out before the current pitch/play was over. I also got better at looking one or two steps ahead in the game so I'd have a number ready to call for an anticipated situation a play in advance. Then it looks like you're calling a dummy number when you're not hunting for it on the sheet.
When it works, you feel like a puppet master. Of course, making a dumb call or lack of execution can quickly cut the strings.
