I have been using an A800 Wilson glove for the last 5 years to play ball with my very young kids. They aren't so young anymore, and neither am i.
When my kids throw to me, it really hurts my hand as they are throwing much harder. I am not skilled enough to always catch in web, etc...

So i figured i'd get a new glove that i can use to practice with them, and eventually give to them. They are both infielders. Ones at short, another at second. They are both in pitching lessons, and i figured i'd get a 12 inch glove that they can use to pitch, or if they ever get moved to outfield as the teams get more competitive.

I initially was like, okay i'll get Rawlings. The last 3 gloves we bought have all beens Rawlings... but Nokona keeps catching my eye. The custom Nokonas USA built are now $800 bucks. I can't justify a $800 glove for myself. Maybe if my kids were playing in college, etc... but the Nokona built off shore and assembled in USA are the same price as Wilson A2000/Rawlings HOH custom. About $400 bucks.

I customize all our gloves with our last name on the thumb + glove name on the pinky, so selling isn't an option ever.

What would you do? This will be the last glove I ever buy myself so I want to make sure i get it right.

Whatever you choose, go Tan with Tan laces! ;) Does it have to be a custom? Do you have to have your name embroidered on the thumb?

Instead of a custom, what about a exclusive Horween Rawlings?

Don't limit your options with just a custom.....you are aware of that huge fleet of cargo ships hanging out in the Pacific, right?

I have always felt comterable catching players with my 35 year old mitt so this is just speculation on my part.

Unless your the same size as your DD I think your plan might be flawed. IDK if anyone's hand has been in DD's current glove except for her own.

Before you go this route you might want to put a sponge in the palm of your glove and see if that works. I would not expect to hand it down to them to use in games.

DD has played everywhere but P and 2nd were her main spots. She has an 11.5 glove. If She was OF or 1st glove size make a difference but we never chased that.

yeah, i didn't realize thats what i should do until i placed all the gloves down. The problem with tans, etc.. is i'd like to see them before i buy them. I don't like yellow hues and prefer a more neutral tan.

There is a great deal on a Horween two tone now on rawlings website. but its a 316 glove, and i like my gloves going thumb to pinky.

Re custom.. I like them, because i see how long you guys have your gloves. I'd love to give my grandkid my glove. The embroider helps me give meaning to the person i ordered the glove for.

I am always envious of folks with the darkened blondes/tans. so i may do that as well.

I guess i just like unique pieces.

One thing to try is the TIP, or two in the pinky grip. Now that my DD is 14, I just can't hang any more and it hurts my hand so I shift my hand over and my index finger goes in the middle finger slot, middle goes to ring, etc etc and you end up with your ring finger and pinky in the pinky slot. Just a thought if you wanted to save a little money.
